James Codner Obituary
1960-2016
JAMES HENRY CODNER, 55, passed away on February 9, 2016, in Houston Texas.
James was born in Bogota, Colombia, July 12, 1960, to parents Henry Oliver and Letitia Ruhl Codner. In 1963 the family moved to Houston, TX, where James grew up and attended school. In 1979 he graduated from Robert E. Lee High School. James studied engineering at Texas A&M University and graduated in 1987 with a Bachelor of Science in Systems Engineering. During his years at university he worked offshore, gaining valuable experience in the oil and gas industry. In 1986 his first patent was granted for his design of a Tubular Handling Assembly with Locking Mechanism, a safety device for offshore drilling rigs.
James had a passion for the oil and gas industry, and specifically, for improving work site systems and safety. His career took him to the far corners of the globe with BP Amoco 1987-1997; Exxon Mobile 1998-2012; and British Gas 2012-present. He lived in Canada, England, France, Nigeria, Singapore, Malaysia, United Arab Emirates, Russia, Australia, and South Korea.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, James and Josephine Ruhl, and his father, Henry Oliver Codner. He is survived by his wife, Julie Codner, of Cape Coral, Florida; his mother, Letitia Codner, Houston; brother, Robert L. Codner, Austin; sister Christina Harrison and husband Douglass, Houston; niece and nephew Kelly and Jack Harrison, Houston.
A celebration of James' life will be held at 10:00 AM, Monday, Feb. 22, 2016, at Memorial Oaks Funeral Home, Houston, TX.

I worked with James at ExxonMobil and actually ran into him twice recently at the Kroger on Voss. What a shock that he has passed. My deepest sympathy to the family for this loss.
