John Boyce Obituary

John Bruce Boyce
04/21/1945 - 02/26/2024
John Bruce Boyce, 78, slipped from his earthly bonds peacefully on February 26,2024 at the of his daughter, Laura, Katy, Texas, who was at his side.
Born in Corpus Christi on April 21, 1945, to Clinton Harvey Grace and Billie Jean Butts, he was nicknamed 'Scooter' in his early years. Billie Jean eventually married John Kenneth Boyce, who later adopted John. At this time John chose to change his name to the name he would be known by John Bruce Boyce. He graduated from Westbury High school in 1963.
He was proud to be a native Texan and a descendant of Austin's old 300. He was also proud to be a registered professional engineer. He also had a keen interest in history, genealogy and books and loved MG's.
After serving as a full-time missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Uruguay, he married Sharon Lou Wrice in 1968. He fathered 10 children with his first wife.
He is survived by his current wife, Lynne Ruth, his sisters Jackie Palmer and Lori Prince, his brother Thomas Edward Boyce. He is also survived by his 4 sons, Aaron, Kenneth, Nathan and Joel and by his six daughters, Valerie, Amy, Laura, Rachel, Gretchen and Rebekah, and by 27 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.
He had also begun to write a biographical book during his last days, which was sadly left unfinished forever. However, he did write a love story of a sailor in Uruguay, Paddy Coleman.
We invite you to join us in sharing stories, laughter, and tears as we pay tribute to his extraordinary life. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to the TEXAS HISTORICAL FOUNDATION in honor of John Bruce Boyce's memory.
The Viewing will be held on March 8, 2024, at 1603 Norwalk, Katy, Texas at 6 pm. The Funeral will be held on March 9, 3024 at 10 am at the same place. There will not be a burial service. If you wish to send flowers, they can be delivered to 1018 Park Bud Ln, Katy, Texas 77450. Thank you so much for the love, support and sharing this time of loss and pain.

Mi querido amigo. Sentía que algo te había pasado. Siempre recordaré el tiempo en Minas, Uruguay, siendo tú misionero regular y yo un misionero de construcción. Gracias por tu amistad. Cariños a la familia.

I am so sorry to hear this about John. I didn´t know him personally, but we were Facebook friends and in a group we called the Loony Livingroom. John was a sharp witted guy who shared our passion for America and preserving our way of life. Praying for comfort and for your family

An interesting and knowledgeable man. An enthusiastic WHS Reb. He will be missed. RIP, John.

I went to Westbury with John. He named our club, he helped organize our community parties and keep our group together. Our club was loosely woven but we were proud to be a part of the Aardvarks! Yes, that was the name John gave us! His sense of humor and kindness will be missed!

John will be missed by many. He was a loyal WHS Rebel, who like all former grads was willing to have his voice heard. Farewell friend!!
