Joseph Nogee Obituary

Joseph Lippman Nogee
06/16/1929 - 07/11/2023
Joseph Lippman Nogee was born June 16, 1929, in Schenectady, New York, and died in Houston July 11, 2023. He was educated at the Georgetown School of Foreign Service, The University of Chicago and Yale University. He joined the faculty of the Department of Political Science at the University of Houston in 1958, where he taught 46 years. He held visiting positions at New York University, Vanderbilt, the United States Army War College, The University of Virginia, Rice University, and University of St. Thomas.
Professor Nogee valued his colleagues and students and derived great pleasure from teaching. He wrote about the control of atomic energy and extensively about the Soviet Union and Russian politics. That interest had been seeded by his interest in and appreciation of Russian music and literature. He was a passionate music lover and avid collector of classical CDs. He loved animals; he particularly loved dogs.
The memorial service and reception will be held at 1:30 pm, Sunday, July 23, at the A.D. Bruce Religion Center, University of Houston, 3841 Cullen Blvd (Parking Lot 13A).
Joseph Nogee is survived by his wife, Jo, his daughter, Leah Brooks, two grandchildren, a nephew, and a niece. He was predeceased by his son, Jyle. His family is grateful to his Houston Hospice nurse Krissy Muscarella for her support and care and to Caring Hearts' able and attentive caregivers.
In lieu of flowers, gifts in memory may be directed to the Joseph Nogee Faculty Excellence Endowment in Political Science by check payable to University of Houston, P.O. To the Nogee family,

Please accept the Meisgeier family´s most heartfelt condolences. If my mother was able, she would send her love and support to her friend Jo at this difficult time, as Charles Meisgeier does, as well. They remember such good times & a wonderful friendship with you both.

May Joe´s memory be a blessing.
Warmest regards,
Melissa Meisgeier Noriega
