Patrick Frede Obituary

Patrick Blake Frede
11/07/1955 - 09/08/2023
Patrick Blake Frede, 67, passed away peacefully at home on September 8, 2023 surrounded by his family, his caregiver, Ana, and his dog, Archer. A native Houstonian, Pat was born on November 7, 1955 at St. Joseph's Hospital and grew up with two younger sisters, Sallie and Ellie, whom he adored. Pat attended The Kinkaid School and graduated in 1974; he maintained many close friendships with his classmates throughout his life and often reminisced about a wildly fun interim-term trip on the Kinkaid school bus to Canada. Pat was especially happy when his son Preston graduated from his alma mater. Growing up a Longhorn fan, Pat attended the University of Texas and graduated in 1979. After graduation, he moved back to Houston and started a career in commercial real estate and became a real estate broker at the young age of 25. He was extremely proud when his son Parker followed in his footsteps and started a career in the real estate business with New Regional Planning. Pat made friends everywhere he went and maintained a loyal group of close friends throughout his life. He was passionate about animals, especially dogs and horses, and always had a dog or two, and sometimes three! Pat was an avid outdoorsman who spent many happy times in South Texas around a camp fire; he enjoyed the comradery of a hunting lease as much as hunting itself. He was also an enthusiastic skier, whether on the waters of Lake Travis or the mountains in Colorado. In 1987, Pat met his wife Rebecca, and they married on April 30, 1988. In 1991, Pat changed careers to join Rebecca in the promotional advertising business. Together they worked as a team, side by side for over 30 years; he was a valued collaborator, trusted advisor and creative business partner who built an impressive clientele that remained loyal until his retirement in 2023. Pat was a true cowboy at heart and was involved in the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo for over 30 years. He was a member of the Cutting Horse Committee, the National Cutting Horse Association and served as a Horse Show Chairman and was a Lifetime Committeeman. Pat loved participating in cutting horse competitions and later, he and his son Preston traveled extensively to compete all over Texas and surrounding areas. He attended Grace Houston Church, and was a longtime member of The Houstonian and The Forest Club. Pat brought honor to his family and was a devoted father. He was involved in every aspect of his sons' lives and his legacy will live on through them. Pat bravely fought interstitial lung disease for over 10 years.
Pat is survived by his beloved wife of 35 years, Rebecca, and their two sons, Parker and Preston; his sisters, Sallie Frede Kemper of Santa Fe, New Mexico, and Ellie Bullard Skelton and husband, Wesley, of Houston, and nieces Grace and Libby Essalih; Step-sister, Felicia and husband, Mike Thomas, of Austin; his aunt Mrs. Blake Tartt (Barbara); cousins Blake Tartt, III, and Courtnay and Mark Elias, and their sons, Baker, Brooks, and Sterling Elias; his uncle, Norman Frede and wife, Sheree; cousins Suzanne Bonner and husband, Trey, and Marijane Smitherman and husband, Barry, along with their children.
Pat was predeceased by his mother, Beverly Tartt Bullard and his father, Herbert August Frede.
The family wishes to express gratitude to Ana Solis for her care and loving support of Pat, which allowed him to remain at home for the duration of his illness, and to Dr. Lisa Kopas, who helped Pat navigate his illness for over a decade. Special thanks also to Pastor Rick Minett, who spiritually guided and counseled Pat and the family.
A celebration of Pat's life will be held at the Forest Club, 9950 Memorial Drive, Houston, Texas 77024 on Sunday, September 24, 2023. Service 3:00 to 4:00 pm, family visitation from 4:00 to 6:00 pm.
For those desiring, memorials may be made to the Houston Livestock Show Cutting Horse Committee in Pat's name.

I don't think I has seen Pat since 1972, when I left Kinkaid.

He was a warm, kind and happy person and he stayed that way and shared it with others.

And to those who loved him, I am sorry he left so soon,

To a great life. A toast.

In loving memory of my dear friend Pat:
I first met Pat in 1980 at Walker Jones Clothiers, From the moment we crossed paths, it was evident that Pat was not just a customer but a friend for life. His warm heart and genuine character made him a beacon of friendship for everyone fortunate enough to know him.

One of Pat's remarkable qualities was his ability to see beyond superficial judgments. He never assessed anyone by anything other than their character, creating a welcoming space where friendships flourished. If you had the privilege of meeting Pat, you gained a friend for life.

It is with a heavy heart that I've learned of Pat's passing, having been out of touch since I moved out of Houston. I am devastated to have missed the chance to say goodbye to such a cherished friend. As we bid farewell to Pat, I find solace in knowing that God has gained another angel in heaven.

Pat, you were more than a friend; you were family. Until we meet again, my friend, let's raise a toast with our martinis held high - SALUTE!

In loving memory,

So very sorry to learn of Pat´s passing. Although I only knew him professionally he was always helpful and the team at Phillips 66 enjoyed our annual visits to Epic Promotions and lunch with Pat. My deepest sympathies.

I am so sorry to hear this. I bought my first cutting horse from Mr. Frede. His name is Shortys Boy. And It looks like him in the picture with Mr. Frede. I wanted you and your family to know that I still have Shorty. He is 22 this year and still doing great.

As a baseball coach at Kinkaid during Preston's senior year, I had the pleasure of not only coaching Preston, but also getting to know his father, Patrick. I am saddened by his passing. He was not only a great supporter of his son, but a strong advocate for his beloved alma mater, The Kinkaid School. Both Preston and Patrick are fixtures in my memories of the 2019 magical season at Kinkaid. My thoughts are with the Frede family and the loss of their patriarch.

Rebecca, Parker & Preston. Pat was a true gentleman. I recall he was always present at the class events at Hunters Creek Elementary with a smile, kind words and so proud of his boys. His legacy lives on through you.
