Steve Seelig Obituary

Steve Seelig
1948-2017
Steve Seelig, never afraid to walk through doors that were opened for him, changed the lives of those around him. Through these opportunities, Steve transformed into a leader and a visionary.
Shearer Hills Baptist Church in San Antonio gave him the grace to develop as a young minister. At Second Baptist Church in Little Rock, he "pushed the envelope" and appreciated the wealth of diversity in the church. During his time at Willow Meadows Baptist Church in Houston, he recognized the importance of international missions and loving those outside our borders. North Phoenix Baptist Church allowed him to the see the beauty of growth through evangelism and a staff that feels like family.
Serving at Houston's First Baptist Church, the opportunities were endless. METRO Bible Study allowed Steve to reach young adults and unite a city. Steve also learned the importance of Women's Ministry as a spearhead of Beth Moore's Living Proof Ministries.
Music was a part of every aspect of his ministry. Steve saw a new form of worship inspiring an emerging generation leading him to aid in the development of Passion Conferences with Louie Giglio. Steve produced, nurtured, and managed Christian artists and speakers such as Point of Grace, Jaci Velasquez, Watermark, Jami Smith, Vodie Baucham, and Passion Worship.
Under the leadership of Dr. Ed Young at Second Baptist Church, Steve used his gifts to the fullest. Combining all these experiences and believing that children are the heart of the church, Steve developed a children's program unlike any other and became Papa Steve to so many!
Steve's love of people and bringing the JOY of Christ to others was woven through all opportunities in his life.
Steve chose to brag about his children and family more than his accomplishments and successes. He loved watching his grandsons play sports and facetime with his granddaughter, always making her laugh. Steve taught his family to love and live life to the fullest!
He leaves behind his wife of 46 years, Bonita, his 92 year old father, Dr. John Earl Seelig, and his family: Stephanie, Jeffrey, John Mark, Laura, Will, Jake, Bowen, Tim, Dan, Corianna, Clay, Clara, Judson, Julianna, and Eden.
A memorial service celebrating Steve's life will be held at eleven o'clock in the morning on Thursday, April 13, 2017, in the Worship Center of Second Baptist Church, 6400 Woodway Drive, where Dr. Ed Young, Senior Pastor, will officiate. Immediately following, all are invited to join the family for a reception in the Deacon's Parlor and adjacent Atrium.
In lieu of customary remembrances, the family requests with gratitude that memorial contributions in Steve Seeligs' name be directed to: Second Kids at Second Baptist Church, MD Anderson Brain and Spine Research, or Houston Hospice.

I had the joy of serving on staff at Willow Meadows and came to each day wondering what creative thought he would come up with. He was a caring man and was proud of his wife, Bonita and their children. A fun thing about him was that whenever a new restaurant opened, he would be among the first customers and then would give us restaurant reviews so we would know where to eat out.

I think often of Steve and those joyous days of working with him, learning from him and watching him work with our youth at Willow Meadows Baptist Church. His love for Christ, his family and others always shined through even in in his times of mischief!

Being on the ministerial team at Willow Meadows Baptist Church in Houston with Steve was a joyous never know what is going to happen each day experience. He was extremely creative and mischievous and was always ready to review a new restaurant. I think he ate at most of them their first day in business. Steve used his creativity and mischief to show others how much Christ loves each of them. I am blessed to have had him in my life.

Steve was my Youth minister at Second Baptist church in Little Rock, AR. He was part of a dynamic staff that grew a downtown church at a time when downtown churches were moving to the suburbs. I will always remember his jovial laugh and he was always smiling. He was one of those rare people who was a "natural". Comfort and blessings to Bonita and the family.

Some of my favorite memories were serving together with Steve in the early days of the"West Wing" at the West Campus. Those were the best of times! We will miss him so much but we know we will see him again soon in Heaven where he is surely just getting the party started for the rest of us to join!
Well done good and faithful servant!

It was at Willow Meadows that I served on staff with Steve. Each day with him was an adventure as his creative mind and fun, loving spirit were very active. I did not need Marvin Zindler for restaurant reviews because as soon as a new restaurant opened, he ate there and let us know what it was like. Above all else, he loved the Lord and his family. I can imagine him and his mom singing together in heaven. He fought a good fight. My prayers go out to Bonita and the rest of the family.

My thoughts are with the family, may God give you the strength and peace during this difficult time. Pls when you have a moment, read Ps.29:11. I hope it can bring you a little comfort!

I grew up in Fort Worth and have so many wonderful memories involving Steve. We had so much fun on choir trips, singing in ensembles, playing in the bell choir, and many other activities. He was such a great man, intelligent, caring, fun, and a great leader. His graduation from this earth is a huge loss for those left behind.

You will be missed beautiful Christian!

Wow! It is really not possible to say in mere words what Steve has meant to me and my family and so many multitudes. Even in the midst of pain, Steve had a smile and a kind word to say to all. Much love and continued prayers for his precious family. We will be dancing and singing with you too in Heaven in the blink of an eye...
Love,

Steve lifted other people up, affirming their gifts and nurturing their talents--and he clearly delighted in doing it. He was a great colleague and friend, and a living example of the unselfish love of Jesus Christ. Our loss is heaven's gain. Love and prayers for Bonita and all of Steve's beautiful family in this time of grief. He will be missed by so many!
