William Stender Obituary

William August Stender
1952-2016
On the afternoon of June 6, 2016 William August Stender passed away in Trinidad, Colorado in the company of some of his dearest friends. Born May 26, 1952 to William Newton Stender and Alice Watts, Bill attended Rice University and the University of St. Thomas where he studied history and philosophy. In his professional life, he was a exceptional businessman and financial advisor with entrepreneurial interests both at home and abroad.
Married to the love of his life, Caroline Coleman, in February of 1990, he was an adoring father to Hannah and Carly Stender, and a loving brother to Michael Watson. His eldest daughter, Leah Cristyn Dulaney, gave him two grandchildren, Bridget and Alec Dulaney, to whom he was a steadfast source of love and support. He is survived by a handsome German Shepherd, Cabo "Cob" Stender, as well as by his human family and exquisite collection of devoted friends.
Bill lived a remarkable life. A fiercely loyal companion with an avid thirst for knowledge and adventure, he will be remembered as a raconteur of epic proportions. He was an extraordinary man and will be missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him. A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 18 at the Chapel of St. Basil, University of St. Thomas, with a reception to follow at the Link Lee Mansion. In lieu of flowers, the family would warmly appreciate donations to Indiana United Methodist Children's Home, [email protected].

Bill and I attended UST together, briefly lived together, and remained close friends until his death. I miss him so much I've taken to calling my neighbor Bill, even though his name AJ. I also send my regards to Caroline (I miss him daily also) and his wonderful children. I remember vividly swimming in the rain while on the southern coast of England. Across the years, I laughed more and had more adventures with him that most--and probably more than I deserve. Ciao chow for now.

Bill "Wild Man" Stender, as known in our college days. We live in different zip codes and talk every now and then, and I knew he was my friend, as we pick up from our last conversation as we live down the hallway at Jackson House. I know he truly love his family and you could tell he was glowing talking about his wife and daughters. I will miss our conversations and feel sad that when I was in Houston, our schedules never coincide.

Love you Bill.
