It's' been so many years since my husband, Bill, and i enjoyed the hospitality of the Johnston family - i was shocked to read of his death and offer my condolences to Terry and the children. May God continue to comfort and care for you all...

Uncle Steve was always so positive and driven. We had several business adventures together and no matter what the outcome, he was always looking for the best outcome possible! When I was a young teen, we were visiting with their family and I was hanging out with JoEllen. (I was the closest to her) During this specific visit, after he came back from hunting some deer and successfully shooting one, he had hung it up in the barn. He came inside and was talking about "gutting it" and well, honestly I had always been a little into the guts and glory of all things morbid! Knowing this about me, he told me to glove up and said he would let me help him clean the deer! So he gave me a bread bag, slipped it up over my arm and secured it with a rubber band around my bicep and said, "well lets do this!" So we marched outside and he brought me out to the barn and showed me where the deer was strung up and told me to put my arm down as far I could go and grab whatever I could and get it out. I did, ONE TIME. LOL, it was as far as I went. I will never forget that. Just a moment with him and I. I won't forget the eggs from the chickens or the cows, or how damn early they got up to do their chores or the electric fence that my brother convinced me to grab one year.....that hurt. Going to his home, their home, was something I truly looked forward to every time we went and I have spoken of it often growing up, well into adulthood. I love you uncle Steve, I will miss you more than I can say. I know you are in God's arms now, I feel it. I look forward to that strong hug again someday!

Steve was an amazing guy. He may be the "grown-up" outside my family that I've known the longest, and I always loved our family visits with the Johnstons when I was a kid. He was an amazingly creative guy, an incredible musician, a lover of humanity, and he had so many qualities I still admire. I maintain close friendships with his children, and they're one of my favorite families in the world. He was a great man, and I'm truly sad that he's gone. Rest in peace, Steve.

Steve will be missed very much. He always had a kind smile on his face. As the days and weeks pass, and as you return to life's routine, may you continue to feel comforted by the love and support of family and friends.
