David Montgomery Obituary

David Richard Montgomery, 59, of Caldwell, died Sunday, Jan. 7, 2006, at a Boise hospital of natural causes. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 11, at Boone Memorial Presbyterian Church, 14th Ave. and Dearborn St., Caldwell, with Rev. Aaron Beaty officiating. Burial will follow at the Middleton Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Dakan Funeral Chapel, Caldwell. 459-3629. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.dakanfuneralchapel.com.
David was born April 29, 1947, at Nampa, to John W. and Nora Stewart Montgomery. David entered the U.S. Navy after graduating from Vallivue High School. He was a sonarman while in the Navy and was stationed in San Diego. It was there that he met Kathy Galitza, and they married in October of 1969. To this union a son, Jason, was born. David started a successful swimming pool cleaning business, Diamond Pools, in the Palo Alto, Calif. area during that time. David's heart was in Idaho, and they moved back to Caldwell for a time and then to Twin Falls and Boise. During this time David sold insurance for Prudential for many years. Again, he was successful at this endeavor. David and Kathy were later divorced.
After leaving Prudential Dave worked for many years for Dick and Tom Matsumoto on the old family homestead east of Caldwell on KCID Road. After leaving the homestead, Dave started to work for Tom Scott Honda. He loved his job. He loved being honest with his customers and making new friends; he took much pride in always saying he wanted the buying of a car to be "a fun and pleasurable experience", and he indeed did that. David had many clients who just wouldn't buy from or deal with anyone else but him, and they would come back year after year. Dick Scott said "he is one of the best car salesman he has ever seen".
In 1984 he was reacquainted with an old high school friend, Susan Petzoldt, and together they became a family - Dave, Sue, Jason, Kristie, Jon and Julie. Dave and Sue were married on May 21, 1999, in Lake Tahoe, Nevada.
David was a genuinely loving and kind individual and an amazing man. He was funny, kind-hearted, sincere, and loved golf and his grandkids. He cared very much for his family, friends and co-workers. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed golfing with his family and friends, especially looking forward to two special yearly events: one was a local spring tournament with his son Jason, and the other, a 4th of July outing with his sons-in-law and grandsons.
He enjoyed watching his grandkids and their sports activities and cheering them on. Papa tried very hard to make every game! Even if he was not there, his grandkids knew that he was there in spirit and he would be the first to call after the game, or early the next morning to see how they did.
"Dave", "Dad", "Papa" was very special to us. Once in a lifetime you are blessed with someone like Dave and we were very lucky to be the ones to have him. He will be deeply missed and will always be loved.
We love you, Your family!
David is survived by: his wife, Sue; his children, Jason, Kristie, Julie and Jon; his sons-in-law, Vince Deleon and Drew Black; his grandchildren, Vanessa, Andrew, Carson, Vincie, Gabby, Nick, Enrique, Madison, Adrienne and Cheyanne; his brother, John Montgomery and sister, Ann Chase; his sister-in-law, Bev Montgomery and brother-in-law, Dale Chase; his nieces, Kate Hammond, Dena Chase, his nephews, Ryan Montgomery and Greg Chase; and his dearest and closest friends, Charlie and Willa Page and many, many other special friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Jack Montgomery; his mother, Nora Montgomery; his granddaughter, Liliana Deleon, and many aunts and uncles.
Special thanks to all of the people that have called and supported the family during the last seven weeks. We cannot begin to express our gratitude and thanks for all the mental support that was given to our dad and our family. Dave loved each and every one of you!
The family would also like to thank Dr. Norman Zuckerman and the staff at St. Luke's Mountain States Tumor Institute and the nurses and staff on 4 South at St. Luke's. David received such tender and loving care during his illness, and we as a family were well taken care of as well.
The family suggests that memorial contributions be made in David's name to the Junior Golf Association, c/o Dakan Funeral Chapel, 504 S. Kimball Ave., Caldwell, Idaho 83605.

We will miss Dave so much - he was truly a sweet and gentle man, with a laugh that we will never forget. I felt so loved by my "little brother". And Don loved Dave like a brother - they were such good friends. We will miss golfing together, sharing laughs with Dave and Sue, and sharing memories of the days at the old farm with Jack and my mom, Margaret. Dave took such good care of them and I will always love him so much for that. Dave, you were such a good man and we are going to miss you so much.
