Gerald Leroy "Jerry" Sorensen

1941 - 2025

Boise - Gerald "Jerry" L. Sorensen, aged 83, passed away peacefully at his home in Boise, ID on May 3, 2025. Born in Ely, NV on November 30, 1941, Jerry moved to Seattle, WA when he was a year old. He graduated from Bothell High School in 1960 and entered the Navy in 1961. His intention was to serve two years but extended his service when the Cuban Missile Crisis broke out as a testament to his bravery and dedication to his country. After leaving the Navy, Jerry studied business at Everett Junior College in Everett, WA. After college, Jerry worked in commercial finance for several companies but spent most of his career with TransAmerica Financial Group.

Jerry was preceded in death by his brother David Sorensen and his first wife Susan (Cooper) Sorensen. He is survived by his loving second wife Marilyn (Hurless) Sorensen whom he married in 2005, his sisters Jeanette Ellis of Mount Vernon, WA and Loretta Sorensen of Edmonds, WA, and his brother Richard Sorensen of Wasilla, AK. He also leaves behind two stepsons, Brian Hurless of Salt Lake City, UT and Scott Hurless of Challis, ID, seven grandchildren, and two great grandchildren. Jerry's ashes will be spread in Mutiny Bay, WA with his beloved parents, brother Dave, and Uncle Oats.

Jerry was an extremely thoughtful, kind, and loving man, deeply loyal to his friends and family. He was always thinking of others, ensuring that they knew how much he cherished them. His smile and welcoming demeanor put people at ease in his company. His keen, dry sense of humor brought joy to those around him. Jerry loved to play golf and was a proud member of the Good Ol' Boys at The River Club in Boise. When not playing golf, he could often be found enjoying a good book. His memory will be cherished by all who knew and loved him.

A celebration of Jerry's life will be held at the River Club in Boise, ID on May 30, 2025 from 4-7pm. For those interested in memorializing Jerry, we welcome donations to the Parkinson's Foundation, or take loved ones to dinner at the Cottonwood Grille, a favorite of Jerry's that holds many special memories.
