Ray Larry Humpherys
February 25, 1938 - March 3, 2016
Ray Larry Humpherys, our beloved family patriarch and leader, passed away on Thursday, March 3, 2016 at St. Luke's Medical Center in Twin Falls, Idaho. Ray was born to Clem and Rose Humpherys on February 25, 1938 in Paris, Idaho. Ray graduated from Fielding High School in Paris in 1956, then attended Snow College in Ephraim, Utah on a basketball scholarship. He returned home to help on the family farm and start a career then spent two years serving his country in the Army.
He married the love of his life, Marlene Nye, on November 11, 1962. Together they raised four children at their family home in Montpelier, Idaho.
Ray was heavily involved in the VFW for the Bear Lake Valley. He was proud to serve and honor all veterans in the annual 4th of July parade, by assisting and/or organizing military rites at numerous funeral services over the years and in any other way he could serve that organization.
Ray was preceded in death by his parents, his son Curtis Ray, his brothers Roger and Wayne, and his sisters Thelda, Ruth Ann and Elizabeth.
Ray is survived by his loving wife, Marlene, daughter Tara Humpherys, Meridian, son Allen Troy and Amy Humpherys, Meridian and son Todd and Mendi Humpherys, Twin Falls. He is also survived by seven grandchildren, Stephanie (Tara), Joshua (Curtis), Emily, Kate and Curtis (Allen and Amy) and Tiffany and Cru (Todd and Mendi) and his sisters Mary Jo Aland, and Jane (Conrad) Michaelson.
A viewing will be held at the Mathews Mortuary in Montpelier on Friday, March 11th from 7-9 pm. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 12th at the Montpelier 3rd Ward LDS church at 2 pm with a viewing from 1-1:45 pm. Graveside services will be held at the Montpelier Cemetery with military rites.
In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Ray L. Humpherys Memorial Fund at any Wells Fargo bank and the family will carry out Ray's wishes to donate these funds to the Wounded Warriors Project.
