Edmund Scrivner Obituary

Edmund (Edd) Scrivner Edd Scrivner, 86, died Dec. 22, 2007 at the Idaho State Veterans Home, Boise. He was born Sept. 17, 1921, in Meridian, Idaho, the only son of Loren and Violet Scrivner. He lived and went to school in the Ustick area and started working at an early age for Western Union, Patterson Dental Supply and Morrison-Knudsen. He married Dorothy Jean Shaw Feb. 15, 1941; they were the parents of three children. He was inducted into the U.S. Army during W.W.II where he served as a Tech. Sergeant in Okinawa and the Philippine Islands from 1945-1947. In 1951 the family moved to Molalla, Ore., where Edd owned and operated 4 Corner's Mobil Service and Automotive Repair. In 1960 he returned to Idaho and resided in Emmett, Idaho, working in the power line construction industry for the Rex Lanham Co. He was employed by St. Clair Contractors from 1965-1974. His next major career move took him to Alaska where he worked for Hardline Electric from 1974-1983. He was an accomplished metal fabrication craftsman and a master with a welding torch. While at Hardline Electric, Edd designed and built specialized power line construction equipment used for the installation of the Alaskan oil pipeline electrical generating facility and transition power line located between Glennallen and Valdez at Thompson Pass. Living and working in Alaska were eventful years with trips to England, Ireland, Central Mexico, South America and Hawaii. After retirement to Boise in 1983, his love for all things mechanical lead to restoring boats, cars, motor homes, countless neighborhood projects and his son's cars. Everyone was welcome at Edd's back yard shop in north Boise for a quick fix or good conversation. Edd and Dorothy enjoyed many years of traveling in their motor home touring the United States, Mexico and visiting family. He was proud of his family's accomplishments and a favorite pastime was telling stories to his grandchildren's eager listening ears. Edd was proud of his service to his country as he was a life time member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He is survived by his wife Dorothy of 66 years, a daughter Sheila Lasson and son-in-law Bob of Alpine, Utah, a son Greg Scrivner and daughter-in-law Jane, Boise, a son-in-law Alan Hurty, Carlton, Ore., 12 grandchildren, Wayne Hurty, John Hurty, Rachel Hurty, Lynne Davis, Wade Robison, Justin Robison, Ian Scrivner, Sean Scrivner, Tara Schnieder, Paige Haught, Jenna Nelson, Bryn Nelson, 23 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Edd was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter Shannon Hurty, a son-in-law Leland (Lee) Robison and four sisters Cosetta Elliott, Dee Burchett, Lorna Clement and LeeAnn McCoy. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, Jan. 3, 2008, at Cloverdale Funeral Home with viewing beginning at 10 a.m. A reception will follow the service at Cloverdale Funeral Home Reception Center. Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. at the Idaho State Veterans Cemetery. The family would like to express sincere appreciation to the Idaho Veterans Home and the Boise Veterans Hospital staff for the dignified care that was given to Edd in his nine-month illness. Memorial donations may be made to the "Make a Wish Foundation" or your favorite charity.
