Mathew "Matt" Eric Groff, 37, of Boise, died June 2, 2015 from heart failure. He was born in Boise on January 3, 1978 and adopted by Becky (Rosera) and Rick Groff soon after. He was the first of our two sons. As a child, Matt participated in T-ball, little league baseball, soccer, cross country, debate, Boys State, and Boy Scouts. He attained the rank of Eagle Scout. After Matt graduated from Boise High School, he attended Rice University. He worked in the restaurant and banquet industry as a server and did a number of landscaping jobs. Matt was very artistic and liked to create art work both on paper and on the computer. He loved cats, techno music and DJing, NASCAR races, fishing, swimming, riding horses, pizza and disc golf. Matt was proud to create the winning design for the Gem State Disc Golf tournament logo in 2014.
Matt is survived by a large family who loved him more than he knew: His parents, Becky and Rick Groff; his brother, Dan (Christine) Groff; and niece, Aria Groff. He is also survived by his birthmother, Mary (Clarence) Christy; and his half-brother, Robert (Tara) Young and their son Vincent. Mathew also is survived by many aunts, and uncles and numerous cousins. He left a number of close friends.
A celebration of Matt's life will be held on Friday, June 12, 2015 at 11:00 at Boise Unitarian Universalist Fellowship, 6200 Garrett Street, Garden City, ID 83714.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Boise Parks Department for a Memorial Tree in Ann Morrison Park, the Idaho Foodbank, or the Interfaith Sanctuary.
When Mathew came into our lives, we learned many things. To love more deeply, to laugh harder, to feel pride we hadn't known, and become more supportive and tougher than we thought we could be. We can't count the ways we loved him and realize how much we will miss him. He has now passed on, and gone to a better place. Matt, we will love you forever, Mom and Dad.
