Donna Correll Obituary

Donna Kirk Correll, 61, died Saturday, Jan. 19, 2019 at the Grayson County Nursing and Rehab Center.
She was born on December 7, 1957 in Jefferson, N.C. to Glenna Marie and J Rex Kirk of Grayson County.
In addition to her parents, Donna is survived by husband Jerry Correll of Elk Creek; daughter and son- in-law, Corianne and Jonathan Todd; two grandchildren, Aubrey Noelle and Keegan Alexander Todd, all of Charlotte, N.C.; brother Danny Kirk of Grayson County, one nephew, one step son, and three step-grandchildren.
The family received friends and neighbors at the Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home in Independence on Sunday, Jan. 27, 2019 between 2 and 5 p.m. A small service preceded internment with family members officiating at the Cox Chapel UMC cemetery on Monday, Jan. 28 at 2 p.m.
In lieu of flowers the family believes donations to cancer research and no kill animal shelters would most honor Donna's memory. Below are organizations for consideration:

I just saw this obituary and my heart is broken. I worked with Donna at The Declaration and enjoyed being around her. She was a very sweet lady. She left The Declaration to work at the Grayson County Courthouse. I would run into Donna in various places and she would always speak. We would get engrossed in conversations and before we knew it, a lot of time had passed by. I am so sorry for the Correll family's loss. She was a special person. May God Bless You and give you strength now and in the days ahead.

Peace and comfort to Jerry, Cori and family and friends at this difficult time. Donna was a gem, the world and music community a brighter place for her kindness and talent. Susan, Charles and Judy Kilby.

She is a rare jewel, and I am very happy to have been her friend. It is sweet to read messages here from people who knew her after she grew into the wonderful multi-faceted lady that she was destined to be. Donna lived an inquisitive, kind, and industrious life; such a rare woman we have been lucky to know. Godspeed.

Donna has been a close friend for 30 years. She was an unbelievable friend. One thing we both missed out on was promising each other to go out to eat and spend time just talking. She and her daughter took my wedding pictures November 10, 2001. She also did my son's first marriage pictures. She was a wonderful person and talented in so many ways. I will always miss her as I'm sure a lot of other people will. Bye Donna!

She was a wonderful mentor to Kitty who loved her very much- we both did. Donna was also an extremely talented musician and such a gifted vocalist- best of the best in SW Virginia and beyond. My sincere and heartfelt condolences to both the Correll and Kirk families. The Kirk family has been a part of the Gold Hill Community since forever (before I moved here), and I knew the Correll- family through Betty Correll, their Mother. May God bring you peace and comfort through the Holy Spirit during your time of grief. Donna will certainly be missed.

Truly a lovely and creative person, Donna was such a pleasure to be around! I knew her since high school, and was so sorry to hear of her passing, and that she had been ill. She made a portrait of my extended family more than 20 twenty years ago--it's a photo we all treasure. I know Donna will be missed terribly. My prayers for your family.
