Virgil Martin Acevedo, son of Donald and Jane Martin Acevedo, was born in Anderson, South Carolina, May 28, 1992. He resided near his parents on the family farm, The Elms, located in Pendleton, South Carolina. Martin enjoyed life to the fullest and was called a Happy Farmer. He asked Jesus to come into his heart at age seven on June 17, 1999. He was a member of Pendleton United Methodist Church and also enjoyed fellowship at his grandparent's church, Welcome Baptist. Martin participated in Haiti missions with his father.
Martin's family includes his sister, Heather Rainey and her husband, Josh and nephews, Carter, Blaine, Hampton and Hudson; his brother, Josh and wife, Blakley and nephew, Grant. He had very close uncles, aunts and cousins, especially his dear friend and cousin Sam Martin and his uncle, David Martin, who he farmed with. Martin had a very special friend Ashlyn Finley. Grandparents were David and Mary Richey Martin and Virgil and Naty Acevedo. He had many animals that he cared for. We thank many, many people for being friends to Martin and allowing him to be your friend.
Operating the family farm, as well as farming land for many other people, was one of Martin's true delights. The Pendleton Hay Company was formed while Martin was in high school, selling hay to people in the area.
Martin attended Anderson Christian School where he played basketball, soccer, and golf and was a Duke Tip Student. He attended Pendleton High school lettering in football as kicker for the varsity and junior varsity football teams. Also, he played soccer and loved being a member of the Future Farmers of America, receiving the Greenhand award and being a Career and Technology Completer in Agriculture. He was voted "Most Outspoken" male by his senior class. He attended Tri County Technical College. Martin was a founding member of the Clemson University Bluegrass Ensemble -Tigertown Roots, as a banjo player, performing in the upstate. He helped in developing Breazeale's Grocery Bluegrass with his parents.
4-H was a huge part of Martin's life, receiving many awards showing dairy cows, sheep and participating in tractor driving competitions, being first place winner for five years. He was a member of the The Pendleton Area 4-H Club dairy judging team, winning the state contest, and served as an officer of the South Carolina Junior Holstein Association. For years, Martin attended many Southeast Youth Dairy Retreats. He was a member of the Pendleton Farmer's Society and the Walker McElmoyle Fire Department.
Martin was a part of Arch Construction (a family business), worked with the City of Clemson, and farmed at Martin Dairy, Scattered Oaks Farm, and Denver Downs Farm.
Funeral service will be held at the family farm on Bishop Branch Road, June 16, 2018, at 1 p.m. A Celebration Visitation was held at Breazeale's Grocery Bluegrass, May 31, 2018.
Memorials may be made to the Martin Acevedo Legacy to fund projects that support young people in music and agriculture endeavors and projects to help improve lake rescues. Donations can be mailed to: TD Bank, 2918 North Main Street, Anderson, South Carolina 29621.

Will miss him dearly, even though we rarely got to hang out and spend time together at SPBGMA.
Martin was a rare young man who was always fun to be around and was a great example to any other young man to follow.....He was a credit to his family and himself as "a good man and person". Will miss you buddy....for sure.

I've heard nothing but good positive comments about your precious son, all around Pendleton, & Anderson. This speaks volumes about the way
you, his parents, raised him from birth to adulthood.
I know it doesn't help the pain of missing him & never will. I'd like to think that if I were in your shoes today I could find some comfort in knowing I'd done my best until He called a child of mine home. I pray
that gives you some comfort. His short life had a big impact on so many others, the young & the aged.
I'm sorry to say I never had the opportunity to meet him, but proud of him just the same for the testimony his life left with & for others. May God
provide all you need to get thru this, & be with you daily until you see him again.

To all my lovely family .....I will like to share this personal thought that may help in this pain...
Finding Martin in that depth of 130 feet was a miracle to give us all peace.
The power of praying with faith was revealed and The lake was only the method God used to call him home and
In fact; I now realize with all this experience that Martins mission on earth was complete.
Painful and Sad to realized... that he is not longer in earth ....but happy for his entry to heaven.
Martin is now enjoying the beauty of His perfection. With no pain , whole and perfect...
I just learn that In Hard times I built up if I turn to God.
Yes.. Is easy for me to Believe and Trust in good times and I think that our life on earth is about building our characters to be welcomed to Gods Heaven anytime...
My new vision of time ...(me thinking that Martin was only 26 years old )......... is nothing to God.
God does not know about time.

We are tiny and blind to God huge plan.
Martin was touched in love spread to so many people in FB, family, co workers, church, the priest, friends, even voluntaries helping that never knew him before, also The Head of Search operation guy you can tell in his speech.. ...,lot of people have been touched throught Martin to attract God... isnt that beautiful
