Richard K. "Dick" Allen, Jr.

Anderson, SC

Richard Kingsley "Dick" Allen, Jr., 68, husband of Debra Hooper "Debbie" Allen, passed away Wednesday, March 1, 2017, at the Rainey Hospice House.

Born in Anderson, he was the son of the late Richard Kingsley and Mary Masters Allen. Dick was a graduate of The Citadel where he was a member of the Summerall Guard and later graduated the University of South Carolina School of Law. He was a Captain in U.S. Army. Dick was an Attorney with Allen & Eakes Law Firm and a member of the S.C. Bar Association. He had served as a Trustee at Anderson University. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Anderson where he was a Deacon and served as Chairman of the Pastor Search Committee in 1995 that called Dr. James R. Thomason as Pastor.

Survivors include his wife, Debbie Allen of the home; three children, Richard K. Allen III and wife, Leah of Greenville, Mary Allen Lowe and husband, Danny of Greenwood, and Jonathan Reed Allen of Batesburg-Leesville; four grandchildren, Daphney and Delaney Lowe, Emma Allen and Richard K. "Ford" Allen, IV; brother, Thomas M. Allen and wife, Susan of Anderson; sister, Ann Allen Rice and husband, Glenn of Batesburg; and his father-in-law, Alfred H. Hooper, Sr. of Anderson.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, March 4, at First Baptist Church conducted by Dr. James R. Thomason. A private burial will follow the service. The family will receive friends from 1 until 2:45 p.m. Saturday at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, 307 South Manning Street, Anderson, SC 29624 or Hospice of the Upstate, 1835 Rogers Road, Anderson, SC 29621.

Sorry to hear that Dick had passed away. If I remember correctly, we attended summer school together before our freshman year. We were all getting acclimated to the "military" life style!
