Ruby Holbrook Obituary

Ruby Howell Holbrook

Anderson, SC

Ruby Ella Howell Holbrook, age 89, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, November 24th. She was a beloved mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She was the widow of Dayton Holbrook.

Born on June 9, 1926, she was one of six children born to the late Edward and Essie Howell. She was a devoted wife and mother for many years as well as a very dedicated homemaker. She enjoyed gardening, making her yard beautiful and admired by many. She was a member of Concord Baptist Church for 57 years where she was active in various roles over the years. Her love for the Lord and her church was most important to her. Sincerity and genuine love for others are traits that best describe her.

She is survived by three children, Ken Holbrook, Doug (Tracy) and Jane (Sam) Burns; four grandchildren, Sunny Wells (Russell), Kendal Day, Hannah and Zackary Bailey; three great-grandchildren, Jaylen Day, Dayton and Elsie Wells; three sisters, Mattie Powell, Ruth Hanks, and Edna Stansell; and many nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Walter Howell; a sister, Naomi Howell Simpson; and a grandson, James Brandon "Jamie" Holbrook.

The family will be at the home of her son and daughter-in-law, Doug and Tracy, and will receive friends at The McDougald Funeral Home on Friday, November 27, 2015 from 12:30 p.m. until 1:30 p.m.

The Funeral Service will be held in the chapel of the funeral home on Friday at 2:00 p.m. with Dr. Don Cox and Reverend Bob Marcaurelle officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

Flowers are optional, or memorials may be made to Concord Baptist Church, 1012 Concord Road, Anderson, SC or to Hospice of the Upstate, 1835 Rogers Road, Anderson, SC.
