Walter McWhorter Obituary
Pendleton, SC
Walter Melvin "Buck" McWhorter, 83, of the Melton Community, husband of the late Linda Jo Kay McWhorter, passed away Wednesday, January 25, 2017, at Marchbanks Assisted Living.
Born in Anderson County, he was the son of the late Jesse McWhorter and Olivia Tecora Burgess McWhorter Harper. He served in the U.S. Marine Corp, U.S. Army and the U.S. Army Reserves. He worked in road construction for many years and after retirement worked for the S.C.D.O.T. Mr. McWhorter attended Cornerstone Community Church, Easley.
Survivors include two sons, Freddie McWhorter and wife, Berenice of Central, Ronnie McWhorter and wife, Vicki of Townville; one daughter, Joan Cantrell of Anderson; grandchildren, Bill Martin and wife, Lisa, April Hopkins, and T.J. Martin and wife, Jennifer; great grandchildren, Jayden and Trinity Hopkins, Nate and Gabe Martin, Josie and Emma Martin, Hannah, Ethan, Caleb, and Logan Turner, Erin and Hannah Edens, and Kodie and Kaitlyn Cantrell; and one brother, Teddy Wayne McWhorter of Liberty.
He was twice married, first to the late Betty Cooke McWhorter.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, January 28, 2017, at Sullivan-King Mortuary Chapel conducted by Dr. Stanley Wardlaw. Military honors will be provided by the Upstate Marines Honor Guard. The family will receive friends following the service.
