David Lindsey Obituary

David Lindsey, Jr. Haskell David Lindsey, Jr., 87, passed away peacefully Monday, November 5, 2018 surrounded in love by his family.

Born in Aiken, September 6, 1931, he was a son of the late Haskell David Lindsey, Sr. and Rena Cothran Lindsey. Mr. Lindsey was a graduate of Greenwood High School and attended Erskine College and Presbyterian College. He began his clothing career with his father at Lindsey's on Waller Avenue and later in the Hampton Plaza in Greenwood and in the mid 1960's opened Lindsey's Ltd. On Washington Street in Columbia. Mr. Lindsey was also one of the original investors in Palmetto Dunes on Hilton Head Island and enjoyed his business partnership in association with the Quick Burger Restaurant and bringing the first Kentucky Fried Chicken to Greenwood.

In 1975, Mr. Lindsey closed Lindsey's of Greenwood and accepted a sales position with Neiman Marcus in Atlanta, GA where he would soon become one of the top two men's clothing salesmen for the company. After retiring in 1994, he returned to his roots and opened David Lindsey Clothier which continues to be a Greenwood clothing tradition to this day.

Mr. Lindsey was a member of the Episcopal Church of the Resurrection where he previously served on the Church Vestry and was a former member of the Church Choir. He was also an avid golfer and former member of the Greenwood Country Club.

He is survived by his four daughters, Mary Alice Poore and husband James of Greenwood, Jo Ann Myers and husband Ronnie of Abbeville, Debbie Lynn Lindsey and Nancy Dee Lindsey, both of Greenwood; seven grandchildren, Lindsey Sides, David (Leslie) Myers, Jonathan (Amanda) Myers, Kayla Smith, Brandon Smith, Matthew Andrews and Karli Andrews along with nine great-grandchildren, Ethan, Bailey, Camryn, Christopher, Destinee, McKenzie, Skyler and Macy. He is also survived by his former wife and friend, Mirta Lindsey of Greenwood and was predeceased by a granddaughter, Crystal Smith.

Funeral services will be conducted at 12 Noon Thursday at the Episcopal Church of the Resurrection.

Private family burial will be in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.

Honorary escort will be Ed Moore, Pat Webb, David Patterson, Butch Lewis, Sam Zimmerman, Calvin Kinard, Henry Reynolds, Robert Tinsley, Tripp Whitmire, Johnnie Waller, Bill Ellenberg, Allen Wade along with former employees of Lindsey's, current and former employees of David Lindsey Clothier and his loving caregivers.

The family will receive friends at the church from 10:30 AM to 11:45 AM Thursday.

The family would like to thank Dr. Sam Burnett for his many years of devoted care as his trusted physician along with his compassionate caregivers, Kindra Schipes, Alexis Quattlebaum, Dianne Rice, BeBe Wesson, Bonnie Barton, LeShown Goodwin, Keylee Crenshaw and the staff of Hospice Care of South Carolina. He will be greatly missed by his therapy dog, Tiki, who brought him much pleasure.
