Doug Abney Obituary
Born in Greenwood, Doug was the son of the late Leroy Abney and Mary Hart Abney. Doug was a former employee of Greenwood Mills and Richtex of Ninety Six. Doug served as the past chief of Epworth Phoenix Volunteer Fire Department and as president with Woodman of the World, chapter 412.
Doug loved his community and devoted his time and energy to helping those in need. He was a true servant at heart and left an everlasting impact on others with his kindness and work ethic.
Doug was a faithful member of Mt. Carmel UMC, where he served as secretary and treasurer.
In addition to his loving wife of 47 years, he was survived by his sons, Jason Abney (Vicky) of Greenwood, Eric Abney (Lauren) of Ninety Six, and his precious grandchildren, Debra Norman, Claire Norman, Bella Norman, Ellasyn Abney and Kadence Abney. Doug was also survived by his two sisters, Balinda Abney Hodge, Susan Abney McLaughlin, his nieces and nephews, Andrea Kristiansen, Julia McLaughlin, Dean McLaughlin, Mike Hodge, and many friends that he considered family.
Along with his parents, he was predeceased by a brother in law, Andy Hodge.
The family will host a memorial service at 2:00 PM on Thursday, August 29, 2024, at Mt. Carmel UMC with Rev. Myra Taylor and Bob Napier officiating. The family will receive friends following the service.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Dean McLaughlin, Warren Winn, Tim Adams, Mike Collins, Dal Stone and Tommy Viviano.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the church in care by Susan Abney, 6009 Hwy 178 S, Ninety Six, SC 29666.
