I first met Dr. Irwin when he interviewed me as one of the finalists in the IUPUI Swain Scholarship competition. He was such a fine gentleman and put a nervous high school senior at ease, especially when he learned I wanted to become a doctor. We had quite a talk once we realized that he was from Roachdale and my grandfather was from the Greencastle area and had been the Dean of Men at ISU. I'm happy to say I got the scholarship and became a doctor.
I also rotated as a resident at Methodist with Dr. John Warden and did not know he was Dr. Irwin's son-in-law!
My sincerest condolences to all your family - Indiana has lost one of its finest.

I was a secretary in AO while Dr. Irwin was Chancellor of IUPUI. I still remember the day I came around the corner, so to speak, when this kind and thoughtful man had my cup of coffee waiting for me. Dr. Irwin and I hit the coffee room at the same time every morning and he continued the ritual of serving me until I left my job. I also remember when I was searching for "the" Christmas present for my youngest son and I casually mentioned it to Dr. Irwin while getting my cup of coffee. I couldn't find the toy anywhere. He graciously volunteered that his wife, Marianna had just purchased it the night before. In essence, Mrs. Irwin went out of her way to make sure that my son would have the gift he wanted for Christmas. IUPUI had a wonderful leader in Dr. Irwin. I have nothing but respect for him. Please accept my sincere sympathy.

I'm sorry to hear of the loss of your father. My Dad, the late Dr. Robert Rohn, and your Dad went back to their earliest days at IU, and remained friends for more than 50 years. Our parents were long-time friends and neighbors. As a newspaper reporter, I also had many dealings with your Dad -- especially during his years as Chancellor at IUPUI.
I am sorry for your loss.
Truly,
David Rohn

I have always had fond memories of your father who was Dean of the Medical School during my four years in Indianapolis.
He was a fine man with a great awareness of what it meant to be a physician and the skills that were needed to succeed in becoming a respected member of the profession.
Above all I have always remembered his warmth and fondness for medical students and tolerance for their misguided adventures.
His life was an honor to all physicians.

My memory of your Dad is his smile. In elementary school, as tall as he was, he would smile and the world in your home brightened. Forty years later, I feel the calmness he projected by his smile. Carry your Dad forward in life through your actions. Thinking of you all

I am so sorry to learn of the passing of Glenn. Both your mom and he were great friends of my parents-my dad having been with IU & IUPUI for over 30 yrs before he died. Our parents spent many a party together and when my dad had his first heart attack your dad was one of the first to visit him at IU hospital here at the med center. Dad's office was on the campus there.
Sincerely,
