Gregory Perry Obituary

Gregory Reed "G.P." Perry

Greg Perry died on June 3, 2017. He was born July 23, 1961 in Franklin, Indiana, to John and Carol Perry.

GP was an independent writer and producer, artist and civic leader, raconteur and friend and force of nature. He attended Franklin Community High School and graduated from Butler University in 1983, where he was a member of Phi Delta Theta. He worked for Simon Property Group and local ad agencies before establishing his freelance business in the late 80s.

In 1994, GP was the visionary designer of the Landmark for Peace Memorial sculpture at Martin Luther King Memorial Park in Indianapolis. He continued to work on behalf of MLK Park, serving as board member for the Kennedy King Memorial Initiative. Always active in local events, GP was a founding member of Tonic Ball and the Stutz Artists Open House, and box office manager for North Central High School Theatre.

GP was an avid runner, cyclist, and water-skier, known for his quick wit and eagerness to help. He loved books, poetry, film, sports and mowing the grass. Mostly, GP loved people: making friends, telling stories, spending time with his son Mason and watching him act onstage. He was a loving husband to Debi K. and devoted son to Carol.

GP is survived by his mother Carol, of Punta Gorda, Florida; wife, Deborah Duppstadt Keay; son Mason Reed Perry; brother Nicholas Perry, sister-in-law Kate Manual and nephew Sam; and by hundreds of friends whose lives he touched in unforgettable ways. He was preceded in death by his father John.

Memorial services are Wednesday, June 21, at Indiana Landmarks Center, 1201 N. Central Ave., in Indianapolis. Calling is at 3 p.m., with services at 4 p.m.

So sorry to see that Greg has passed. We were childhood friends in Franklin before we moved to Greenwood. I was elated to see that Greg created the famous MLK/RFK memorial. I just shared with a friend in the office of the touching moment when I saw the RFK graveside and memorial at Arlington as his famous words the night MLK was assassinated were etched in granite. This inspired me to look up Greg and reach out just this morning. I regret waiting so long.

Greg was a fun and kind. We shared wonderful young boy memories...football in the front yard and I vividly remember the first time we saw Frosty the Snowman on TV. Rest in Peace Greg.

GP,
Finishing up the book, The Supernova Advisor.
I am dedicating it to you. I think you would be proud of me finishing it on my own. I think it is pretty good.
I hope you are happy and found peace in heaven.
I miss you and think of you often. You have no idea how you were loved.

I will never forget Greg. I worked with him briefly on a project for an ad agency many years ago. He was so creative and sharp. I liked him instantly. Later I worked on a few projects for Debi K. Recently I happened to run into Greg hiking with his family at Turkey Run. A great encounter. Prayers and condolences to Debi K and Mason.

I met GP & Debi a lifetime ago through Beth Elder. They both made me smile a lot. Although I only saw them once a year or so, they always made me smile. I hope Debi and the rest of us will eventually be able to think of Greg and just smile.

My sincere condolences to Greg's family. I am so sorry I never got to meet you personally. When I was starting my own business, I hired Greg to write my brochure and we became friends. He inspired and encouraged me in many ways. He was incredibly talented. Kindness and integrity are the two words that come to mind when I think of Greg. I will miss him greatly.

I never knew where the next conversation with GP would go, but I knew it would be deeper than other conversations I would have that day. I will miss that. When my daughter's fiancée died earlier this year, GP was one of the first people to call and check on me, even though we had not seen each other in months. No agenda, no bumper-sticker advice; he just wanted to make sure I was OK and told me I could call any time. To me, that's the perfect vignette of what people meant to him and what he will always mean to us.

I met GP at Gordo's Farm and will always remember his amazing smile that just lit up everything/everyone around him. Later, when we had studios next to each other at the Stuz he became a fine Sculptor. He was a lovely human being and a fine Artist. My deepest and most heartfelt condolences to you both

There really are no words for this, although many have said such beautiful things, and all of them true.

He definately was a force- to be sure. Brilliant, gifted, charismatic, enthusiastic, witty- everyone who knew him already is fully aware of these qualities. I doubt anyone could have a 5 minute conversation with him and not realize what a special character he was.

Debi and Mason, my deepest sympathy goes out to you both. I am so sincerely sorry for your tremendous loss. You are in my thoughts.
