Hilda Pfeifer Obituary

Hilda L. Pfeifer 105, of Indianapolis died peacefully in her sleep on March 2, 2011. She was born in Avalon, Missouri, on December 8, 1905 to Robert and May Shields. She graduated from Chillicothe Business College and moved to Chicago, Illinois where she worked in The Loop and met her future husband while riding the Chicago El. Hilda had worked for John Hancock Life Insurance Company and for Robert B. Pfeifer, CPA - both for many years. She was a 70 year member of Broadway United Methodist Church and was active in the Broadway Workers Class and the Alice Meier Circle. She also received a 25-year pin from White Cross Guild of Methodist Hospital for her volunteer service. Hilda enjoyed time with her grandchildren as well as Town Hall Lectures and Indianapolis Civic Theater. She was known in many circles as a great baker of cookies and brownies. She is preceded in death by husband, Bernard Pfeifer, and brother, Jewel Shields. Hilda is survived by son, Robert (Pat) Pfeifer; grandchildren, Dr. Stephen (Kim) Pfeifer, Dawn Pfeifer and Mike Pfeifer; great grandchildren, Sydney Pfeifer, Rhiannon and Dylan Sheets; step grandchildren, Jeff (Lisa) Sheets and Michele Sheets; and two nieces, Cynthia Sanoba and Catherine Shields. Friends and family will gather on Sunday, March 13, 2011 from 2-4 pm in the Leppert Mortuary, Nora Chapel, with a memorial service to follow at 4:00 pm.
