Kenneth E. Tirmenstein

Indianapolis - Kenneth E. Tirmenstein, 89, Indianapolis, passed away on Wednesday, October 24, 2018. Ken was the son of the late Walther E. and Loretta Tirmenstein. He was former President of the St. Vincent Hospital Foundation and for 16 years a member of the hospital's administrative executive council.

Other positions held by Ken included that of Administrative Assistant to the President of Indiana Vocational Technical College (Ivy Tech), Vice President of Development of the Visiting Nurse Home Care Foundation; Development Manager, Wabash College; and Campaign Associate on the staff of the United Fund of Indianapolis. Initially he was employed by Eli Lilly and Company in a variety of departments.

Mr. Tirmenstein was a member of the National Association of Hospital Development (NAHD) and held its highest accreditation of Fellow. He served as Regional Research Chairman for NAHD, then later as its National Research Chairman. He was published in numerous NAHD journals. Ken was also published in Hospital Progress when St. Vincent Hospital moved into its new facility on West 86th Street from Fall Creek Parkway. He then reported on the planning for and the move into the new facility.

He was a member of the Indiana Hospital Development Council. He was a founding member, director, and chairman of the National Daughters of Charity Hospital Development Council. He was instrumental in the formation of the Visiting Nurse Association of America development committee. He served on the advisory board of the Indianapolis Art League. His diverse interests led to an award for ceramic sculpture from Carnegie Institute.

Ken was a member of the U.S. Navy Reserve for six years. He served two years active duty during the Korean War. He was a former member of the Service Club of Indianapolis serving as Secretary then later as Treasurer of that organization of retired military personnel.

He attended Arsenal Technical High School and Butler University. He was a longstanding member of St. Luke's United Methodist Church.

Survivors are a son, Douglas (Joan Metzler) Tirmenstein; daughter, Donna Boggess; grandchildren and great grandchildren. Preceding Ken in death were his wife of 65 years, Mary; his son, Dean; his sister, Marian Cox; and his brother Carl.

The family wishes to express their gratitude for the wonderful care the staff of Carmel Health and Living provided to Ken, and a special thanks to nurses Beth and Debbie.

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 27, 2018, at St. Luke's United Methodist Church, with visitation at the church one hour prior to the service. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Luke's United Methodist Chancel Choir, 100 West 86th Street, Indianapolis, IN 46260 or as the donor prefers.

Arrangements were entrusted to Flanner Buchanan - Carmel.

Hello I wanted to give my condolences to Mr. Ken's family and friends, he was a Great man I wish I could of told him myself before he passed God Bless his soul.
