I clearly remember Larry Highbaugh playing basketball with the kids on a special visit to D.S. Mackenzie Jr. High School in the late 1970s when I was a student there. He always seemed to me to be a great role model and ambassador to the Edmonton Eskimos football team.

Larry was one of my best friends at Indiana University from 1968 to 1981. I met Larry first at the Indiana track and field state championship held at Indianapolis Washington. I held his starting blocks with my foot so that the blocks didn't slip when he set the 100 yd dash record in 1967. Larry and I were teammates at IU. He gave me the name, "Chickiebird". Larry got the first and last block for me when I returned a punt for 60 yds against Kentucky and scored a touchdown. Larry stayed at my house in Jeffersonville during the Mason Dixon games in 1969. "Rat" was the most versatile athlete I ever played with. I have always and will always remember him.

Mrs. Highbaugh and Family,
I am sorry to hear about Larry. I had the pleasure of knowing Larry, when he was in Edmonton, through my dad (Johnny Bright), while I was growing up. I remember the great times him and my dad would have with their late night BBQ's, in the backyard at my father's house. I have great memories of Larry, he was a wonderful person, with the best sense of humour. I always got a laugh when he was around.
May all the wonderful memories bring you comfort at this difficult time.

So very saddened by the untimely passing of Larry. I had the pleasure of growing up with the Highbaughs as neighbours in Sherwood Park when he played for the Edmonton Eskimos. He was always happy; always smiling and had a sense of humour like no other. It was an honour to know him.
Love and strength to Monica, Angela and Tara, the beautiful young girls I used to babysit. I know you likely don't remember me, but I remember you all fondly.
May you find peace as you heal, knowing that your dad touched many lives, my own included.

Our condolences to the Highbaugh family. We wish we had the pleasure and honor of meeting Larry. We were able to feel his giving spirit and were amazed by his athleticism through the many who were lucky enough to have known him, especially Mark and Peggy Highbaugh.
