Mark Easter Obituary

Mark Richard Easter

Indianapolis - Mark Richard Easter, age 58, died on November 30, 2020, peacefully in his home., He was born November 23, 1962, to Marlene, née Dobbins, Easter and the late Benjamin Franklin Easter. A graduate of Purdue University with a BS in Mechanical Engineering, he was an engineer at Firestone Building Products, a polymer engineer at General Cable and a technical sales representative at PolyOne. Mark was the named inventor on twenty-four United States patents in roofing, automotive, industrial cable, and polymer compounds. He had a creatively brilliant mind and was adept in crossing over to multiple disciplines, which is very unusual in the engineering field. His broad range of aptitudes were used creativity in such endeavors as remodeling homes, building furniture and cooking. His interest was varied and included many subjects: art, music, politics, travel, cooking and most recently gardening.

Mark could recite Shakespeare, identify classical music composers, and included Yeats in his marriage vows. He was equally versed in music including the Violent Fems, Fine Young Cannibals and Elvis Costello. As an avid car lover, he collected and worked on Porsche, Triumph, Maserati and Jensen Interceptor sports cars, even selling a Triumph and seeing it for sale some years later, bought it back; he also worked on wooden boats. He was a connoisseur of fine things and appreciated the details which went into their making. There was always time to help neighbors, friends and family. He was a very patient man and rarely raised his voice even when his wife totaled three cars and backed into two neighbors' cars. Not much rattled him. Kind and gentle, he would not tolerate anyone yelling at his nephews. He was very fond of his Indianapolis nephews, John, Joey and Jimmy Kalwara. They spent many hours at the pool Mark and Jean had. Being the good host, Mark and Jean entertained frequently at their home on Pennsylvania Street. All were welcome and Mark enjoyed a good party.

In addition to his mother, survivors include his former wife and best friend, Jean Easter; sister, Wendy Hanouer, her husband Michael Hanouer, their children Jamie and Joshua; and brother, David Easter, his children Amanda and Christopher; nephews, John, James, Joseph and Mathew Kalwara. Red, an Australian Cattle Dog, was Marks most recent four-legged companion and best buddy, sometimes known as Cozy Toes.
