Cynthia, you have my sincerest condolences on the homegoing of your sister, Sandra. I remember some of the talks we shared in 7th grade at Tolleston High School (that's when we met). She was definitely a "talker" and her future was predestined in that line of work! Her "steps" were ordered by God. Take solace in knowing that she's in a better place with your parents, to suffer no more. May God continue to keep you in His loving embrace.

Dear Cynthia & Family,
I am so saddened to learn of Sandra's passing. We were college classmates at Tufts University (1976) and both went on to become attorneys. In the 40 years that I've known "Leeky", as we called her, I've never met a more vibrant personality. Even in school, she was was bright, caring, high-energy, slightly mischievious and immensely talented. She was so "high energy", it was no wonder that she was quite the amazing cheerleader at Tufts. She remained that way the rest of her life. The last time I saw her was slightly over a decade ago at a Tufts reunion -- and there was Leeky, as dynamic as ever. We all had such a great time. We e-mailed and spoke on the phone several times after that, and even referred clients to each other. It's hard to fathom Leeky having passed on, and Cynthia, I know it must be terribly difficult for you -- I remember how close you two were and I even captured you in a picture or two from our college graduation.
Leeky was a vital part of our class AND our Tufts family - we ALL feel this loss. She forever donned a smile and maintained a delightful, somewhat mischievious sense of humor, even as she rose through the ranks as a skilled attorney and widely respected State Commissioner of Civil Rights. Leeky continues to inspire me even now, because she truly embraced life, as we all should. That's my take-away. 58 years is much too young, but I'm thankful that Leeky jammed life into those years, providing balance to offset her hard work and setting an example for all of us. Our Class of 1976 will never be the same, but we have been blessed and our lives are incredibly enriched because Leeky was part & parcel of our class.
Cynthia, may the Good Lord keep you & your family in His embrace duirng this difficult time...
Sincerely,
Betty

My fond memory of Sandra was when she and her sister Cynthia, accompanied by her cousins Cheryl and Stacey Wesson visited with their Grandmother (affectionately known as "Ma-Mo") on Madison Street in Gary, Indiana. I readily observed and was most impressed by her charisma, keen intellect, quick wit, and special way of "keeping it real" (much like her Aunt Barbara Leek Wesson). She greatly influenced others as an advocate of equal opportunity while serving as Director, Indiana Civil Rights Commission and as my colleague in the administration of Governor Evan Bayh. Sandra prepared herself to give unselfishly as a true public servant by attending the nationally renowned Tufts University in Massachusetts and later Indiana University School of Law in Bloomington. Sandra possessed the unique qualties of superior intellect and urban knowledge which made her an effective communicator who was admired by many. Sandra's gift to others is embodied in Micah 6:8: "And what does the Lord require of you? To act justy and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God." WELL DONE SANDRA D. LEEK, ESQ. Your gifts of compassion and advocacy were appreciated and have made a difference! May God bless your soul.

Cindy, I am so sorry for your loss. I am in total shock. Sandra was a beautiful person inside and out. I fondly remember the times when both of you came to North Carolina for the summer. What good times they were. You and Sandra were inseparable growing up as sisters. Keep those memories alive in your heart and she will always be with you. She has earned her wings in Heaven and I can see that beautiful smile. She is resting peacefully and having a good time with family and friends. Love to you all.

Cyntia,
I recall the first time I met Sandra; we were Law students at IU. All I could think was "wherever she is going I want to walk with her for a while." We were family throughout law school and I followed her for a little longer to Indiapolis. When I left her I knew she was destined to continue to scale tall mountains and slay big dragons. She did.
I will continue to cherish the time I had with Sandra as a gift. My heart is sad, so I can only do what works for me and that is to give my fragile heart to God. I pray that you will find peace in the midst of your storm. Remember, God takes care of fragile hearts.
