Joseph Eckert Obituary

Joseph J. Eckert, M.D.

Joseph J. Eckert, M.D., 86, died Tuesday, June 11, 2002.

Dr. Eckert was born in Akron and had been a lifetime area resident. He served with the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II, attaining the rank of captain. Dr. Eckert practiced surgery in the Akron area, was a member of the American College of Surgeons, the American Medical Association, and retired as director of Emergency Department Services at Akron City Hospital. He was an avid photographer and golf er.

Dr. Eckert was preceded in death by wife, Mary Kathleen, and is survived by children, Donald (Holly) Eckert of Columbus, Richard (Michelle) Eckert of Colorado Springs, Colo., William Eckert of Akron; and sister, Elsie (Paul) Bartlett, also of Akron.

Friends will be received at the Ciriello Funeral Home, 3653 W. Market St., from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, where funeral services will be held Friday (time to be announced). Interment at Rose Hill Burial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Akron City Hospital Foundation or to the Alzheimer's Foundation.

Dr. Eckert and I worked many years together in the ACH ER dept. He was quite a person. I learned so much from him medically, personally and photography wise. He was special and I have missed him. Life was simple to him and patience was his virture. God Bless his family.
