My condolences to Mary Ellen and all the Dougherty family. Coach Doc had a major impact on my confidence when I played basketball for 2 years under his leadership at St. Pius X in his first coaching role in 1958-60. It changed my whole approach to my life and career. A great man!

What a terrific coach and fantastic human being. Doc was my baseball coach and Algebra teacher during my time at Malvern Prep. After I graduated and he left Malvern, I followed his long career in the Philadelphia area. He will be truly missed.

A real Philadelphia legend in every respect. Doc was an incredible coach and educator, but even a better person. I was truly honored to have spent time with him over the years as my sons played basketball at Penn Charter. My deepest sympathy to his wonderful family.

He taught me Geometry and Algebra- no small fete. He was my baseball and basketball ball Coach at Malvern. Led the basketball team to a 20 win, undefeated Inter-Ac season.
He taught me so much. In my life, he is the man, next to my Father, that I respect and admire most.
May he rest in peace. Bob O´Donnell

I was fortunate enough to know this man as a student at Malvern prep along with my brother Karl at Episcopal Academy. He was a good decent man, and you knew when he gave you that look in the classroom, you better cut it out. He was always there for you, more than anything, he was a lifelong friend, to me and my brother Karl. He was just a Good Man, that we will never forget. It is hard to believe that he is gone.
