Malika Moore

Moore Malika Philadelphia native Malika Moore, age 82, passed away at her home in West Philadelphia on August 14, 2023. Widow of poet, Daniel Abdal Hayy Moore, she's survived by Sons Mukhtar and Farid, daughter Saliha, and 9 grandchildren. Born May 26, 1941, she attended The High School for Girls, earned a BFA from Museum School of Art (UArts), and an MFA from UC Berkeley. In 1972 she embraced Islam and Sufism and travelled to many parts of the world. In 1990, drawn to the Bawa Muhaiyyadeen Fellowship in Wynnefield, Mrs. Moore settled in Philadelphia. She wrote: "I've been searching all these years for the right place for me. Wouldn't you know? It's my hometown!" In 2023 she published from a Shore Beyond Water, a volume of her late husband's poetry. On the day of her death she was laid to rest beside him at the Bawa Muhaiyaddeen Cemetery.
