MARGARET MONAGHAN Obituary
MONAGHAN MARGARET "PEG" (NEE THIEL) It is said in some beliefs, that passing on your day of birth means you have completed your God given mission on earth. On Thursday, February 4th, 2021, Margaret Monaghan, 89, completed hers. Margaret, "Peg", was the oldest daughter of Russ and Marge Thiel. She was preceded in death by her two brothers Donald and Francis, along with her loving husband of 59 years, Edward Monaghan, who often referred to her as the most beautiful woman in the world. Peg's greatest joy was her family. She was the proud mother of 6 children, Margaret, Edward Jr., Patricia Schwartz, John (Denise), Don (Trish), and Susanne (Mike) Tuckerman and the beloved and admired Mom-Mom of 11, Maggie, Kate, Casey, Ashley, Mikey, Eddie, Tim, Patrick, Brendan, Hailey, and Grace. Born and raised in Philadelphia, she loved summers in Avalon and dancing the night away to big band music with her lifelong girlfriends, also known as, "her Sorority". Peg met her husband Ed, while working at The Boat Shop. He stopped by daily to see her while walking his beat with the Philadelphia Police Department. The two fell in love over a game of checkers. In the 1980s, Peg worked at Northeast Industrial Credit Union, which was then followed by her favorite position of all, Full Time Mom-Mom. Over the years, Peg's favorite time was spent caring for each and every one of her grandkids. Mom-Mom was the best babysitter ever! As the grandchildren grew up, she loved as each would stop by for a visit and share stories. Along with her love for entering contests and sweepstakes, the undefeated rummy player enjoyed her mornings with a cup of coffee and her cryptogram and her evenings watching her Hallmark Movies or Blue Bloods, with her second favorite leading man, Tom Selleck. Peg loved decorating for every holiday and shopping for the just-right gift for each member of her family. Throughout her modest yet adventurous life, Peg's selflessness and strength shone through as she always put others before herself in even the most difficult of circumstances. And while she would say "This too shall pass" as we mourn and miss her irresistible humor and loving spirit, the adoration from her friends and family will remain. Funeral services for our beloved Margaret will be held on Saturday, February 13, at The Cathedral Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul, 1723 Race St. Philadelphia. Relatives and friends are invited to visit with family from 9 to 10:30 A.M., to be followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 A.M. COVID protocols will be in place. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Holy Spirit Adoration Sisters, 2212 Green Street, Philadelphia, PA 19130. DINAN FUNERAL HOME
