MATTHEW, suddenly, on Aug. 7, 2008. Beloved son of Denis and Francine Holmes (nee Colonna). Devoted brother of Cheryl and Denis Holmes. Dear grandson of Angelo and Wanda Colonna. Matthew is survived by aunts, uncles, cousins and many friends. Relatives and friends are invited to attend His Viewing Wed. eve. 6-9 P.M. and Thurs. 8:30-9:45 A.M., Nativity BVM Church, Belgrade St. & E. Allegheny Ave, Phila PA 19134. Funeral Mass 10 A.M. with Interment to follow in Holy Redeemer Cem. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in Matthew's memory to Nativity Memorial Fund. (REILLY)

Denis, Francine and family... I was so shaken to hear of Matty. So many good people are taken from us. He was so sweet and kind and an AWESOME kid but that is only because he came from great parents!! He will always be remembered!

To the Holmes family , Me and My family are very sorry for your great loss.I coached the Nativity CYO baseball team for 12 years, Matt and Denis both played for me as did around 200 others , I learned alot from my players,no matter thier skills on the field, good players or bad ,they all became a part of my family, I get rewarded every time I see a former player of mine and they just say HI or HELLO, Mike or MR. Rad or Coach. Matt was one of these great kids he was allways so respectful towards me ,as was Denis too.I would sometimes have nicknames for players sometimes I couldn"t pronounce thier names or forget thier names,or discuss with my other coaches this guys this or that . Our thoughts and prayers are with you.Matt went through Nativity with our daughter Colleen,he was one of the most pleasant kids I have ever met.When ever I went to Primos he always had a smile and a hi Mrs. McCullough.Denis and Francine,you raised a true gentleman,he will be sadly missed by everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him.

Den, Francine, Cheryl and Denis,
I have not stopped thinking of you since Matts death. I know that my tears seem to be none stop. It was an honor to be Matthew's uncle as it is to be Cheryl and Denis.
Francine and Denis, you did an awesome job in raising Matt to be the good man he turned into. I will never forget his quiet demeanor and that wonderful smile etched on his face. How many times I was at your home and did not know he was there. Always the quiet one. Never once did he fail to call me Uncle Bob. Never once did he forget to say hello to me. Our entire family, as well as his friends and Port Richmond mourn such a great loss. Den, I believe that mom took Matt into her arms and gave him the big hug that she always did. I also believe that she lovingly took him with her to Christ.
Cheryl and Denis, you guys were not just siblings but best friend's. I have known you since you were born, and I can say with certainty that the three of you had a unique strong bond. In your grief try to remember all the wonderful times you shared with Matt. Denis, I will never forget the story you told of finding your clothes and CD's in Matt's trunk. Cherish that memory. Cheryl, the one who made Matt give her full hugs, laugh and smile when no one else was as successful, keep those good memories alive. Never forget. When you feel that you are at your lowest, remember the thousands of good times you shared with you brother. He loved you as you loved him.
I love you Denis, Francine, Cheryl, and Denis. I wish that I could take your suffering from you but I can not. One thing I think will help you is to rely on your faith. I am positive that God is listening to you and knows your suffering. I also know that Matt is with God. I believe that with all my heart.

Denis, Francine, Cheryl and Denis, Dan and I attended Matthew's funeral today - we were awestruck by the outpouring of love witnessed by all that attended. It was evident how people felt about him and how they care about you. Your son touched our lives in a positive way. Dear Uncle Denis & Aunt Francine:
As a parent, I can’t begin to imagine the excruciating pain you are feeling with the loss of Matt. But what I do know is that you loved Matt, Denis and Cheryl unconditionally with all of your heart. Donna and I are fortunate to have been around you and the kids for a long time and watch you navigate the complicated waters of parenting in such a loving and nurturing way. You both unselfishly gave all of yourselves to your children and left nothing on the table to regret, but you did it in a way which allowed all of your children the freedom to live, laugh and love with always having your support throughout their lives. . You have taught us a great deal in life and for this I thank you. I am certain Matt will always be proud to call you mom and dad.
To Cheryl & Denis: I know you must feel cheated with having your brother taken from you so prematurely. I can only hope that someday down the road you will find comfort in knowing that although the Lord has taken your beloved brother from you in return he has given back to you the most special of Guardian Angels who will always watch over you both and your loved ones and children to come.
