In my early years at Independence Blue Cross, I started out each workday morning by first calling extension 3900---the employee communications information line with pre-recorded information. Pete's dulcet voice intoning a standard greeting each morning..."This is FYI for Monday, February 13th...or whatever the date). It was such a pleasant way to start each workday.
But more than that, Pete Duncan was one of the nicest and most kind person who I have had the pleasure working with over 32 years at Independence. I recall him calling me to let me know how helpful my assistant was in solving a problem for him while I was out of the office on a business trip. He made a point of telling my that my assistant took ownership and went out of her way to get the information he needed within 20 minutes or so.
I had no idea that my assistant had addressed the situation in my absence, but Pete wanted to make sure that I knew of the great assistance she provided. That was so typical of Pete Duncan to make sure that people were recognized for a great job done.
They broke the mold when they made Pete Duncan. Rest in peace, my friend!
