Phyllis Seligsohn Obituary

Seligsohn Phyllis Dear Family and Friends: Phyllis, my wife of 64 years left us on October 25, 2024. She was an extraordinary person. We are all going to miss her, especially me. She was born in Philadelphia in 1937 to Sophy and Abe Cohen. She has two loving sisters, Annette (Bruce) and Cindy (Jay). She went to school in Philadelphia and graduated from Penn in 1959. She taught gifted children at the Farrel School for 30 years. She enriched the lives of all of the kids she taught- they loved her and she loved them. After she retired from the classroom she took a position at the World Affairs Council and volunteered at the Rosenbach Museum. We met on a blind date when I was in the Navy. She said it was love at first sight. We had a wonderful marriage. We traveled the world and spent many wonderful summers at the Chautauqua Institution. We made a lot of great friends there. She was an avid reader and loved playing games and doing puzzles. About our family: We have two children- Jeff and Deena. We also have five grandkids: Ben. Noa, Sophia, Coleman and Owen. Phyllis adored all of them. She was superb wife, mother, sister and Bubbie. She took care of me and made me a better man. I want to thank Deena, Jeff, Lisa, Annette and Cindy for their special devotion and love. Thanks to all of you for being part of our lives. I know her soul is in heaven with her parents, family and friends. Rest easy my love, Shel Seligsohn Funeral Zoom meeting info: Meeting ID: 837 4587 2722. I'm so sad to hear of Mrs Seligsohn's passing! She was my favorite teacher at Farrell, where I attended for 8 years. Mrs. S was always supportive and encouraging to her "gifted kids" making us feel less strange in a very strange world. I will miss her greatly. Thank you to the Seligsohn family for sharing her with us for so many years. I was lucky enough to meet Mrs. S a few years ago for lunch and a date to the Rosenbach Library. She always knew what would make me smile. Rest peacefully.

I am so sorry to hear such sad news. Phyllis was such a special person. She helped me to be a better teacher, and she was a good friend.

Dearest family of Phyllis,
I sweet images of Phyllis. She was always so lovely and kind to me. She had the nicest and brightest smile. The world lost such a great dame. May the days ahead be full of the wonderful and warm memories. Love, Francy Altus
