RICHARD RAU Obituary
RICHARD NICHOLAS "DICK"
Dick attended Germantown High School and was a WWII veteran having served in the Army Occupation Force of Japan. In 1953 he graduated from the Drexel Institute of Technology with a degree in Electrical Engineering. Dick retired from the Philadelphia Electric Company after a 38-year career. He was an expert on engineering economics in the company's Rate Division. Dick enjoyed hiking, traveling, taking photographs, and his home and community in Hunt-ingdon Valley, PA, and later in Bear, DE. He was a loving husband and father who was dedicated to his family and friends. Dick leaves his family with a legacy of a life well-lived. He will be missed dearly.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to your favorite charity. The family will gather for a private interment, and due to the current COVID-19 concerns, a Celebration of Life will be held at a future date. To send an online condolence, visit

Mr. Rau was always a gentleman and quite funny with his dry sense of humor. I'm glad he lived a long and happy life. His son, David, was a childhood friend, whom I recently discovered had passed away. Our families were old friends back in the Melrose Academy days. My condolences to Paul, Cindy and Lisa. It's been a very, very long time since we were all kids and your mom worked at my dad's salon. Hope you are all well.

Lisa and Family, Bob and I were so saddened to hear of the loss of your Dad. We have many fond memories of him (and your mom) as our neighbors! He was one of the first people to welcome us when we moved to Pepper Rd. He was always kind and thoughtful to us and our boys. We were lucky to see firsthand what a loving husband, father and grandfather he was. May his memory be a blessing.
