THOMAS R., on August 10, 2016, at the age of 75. Beloved husband of Grace V. (nee McCue); loving father of Thomas W. (Tina); cherished grandfather of Tommy, Sean, Colin and Connor; dear brother of Mary Clifford and Joseph McDowell. He was a proud member of A.O.H. Division 87.
Relatives and friends are invited to Thomas' Life Celebration Tues. eve. from 6 to 8 P.M. and Wed. from 9:15 to 10:15 A.M. at JOHN F. GIVNISH OF ACADEMY RD., 10975 Academy Rd., Phila. followed by his Funeral Mass 11 A.M. at Christ the King Church. Int. Our Lady of Grace Cemetery.

My prayers are with the McDowell family. I have many happy memories growing up with Joe, Mary and Tom. I think fondly of Tom and Gracie in their courting days and am happy to have known all the McDowell's.

Grace:
In my father's full but abbreviated life, Tom brought him as much joy and amusement as anyone he had ever known. If he was feeling a bit down and frustrated with life, his first option towards rectifying the situation was to head over to your house, and of course, thanks to your good nature and Tom's bottomless well of good humor, he would always return in his typically optimistic state of mind.
While I am sorry for your loss, there is no doubt in my mind that Heaven is now a lot more fun.

I would love to share as many have how lucky we were to have such a great happy go lucky man like Uncle Tom who made for me many awkward times much more comfortable and even fun with his friendly, smart good hearted and karasmatic conversation, he always made me feel like I was welcomed and one of the family when I didn't feel like I belonged , thank you for that aunt Gracie and Uncle Tom , you will always be remembered fondly, aunt Grace and tommy my prayers are with you and the family, I love yous, peace be with you.

Tom was a wonderful and loving friend. He called weekly and visited while Andrew was still alive, and continued to stay in touch with me after Andy passed. I hope he knew how much we appreciated his kindness and how much I'll miss his friendship and quick wit. Your suffering is over, Tom, and you've found peace with the Lord.

Nobody loved and cared more for life & family more than you Uncle Tom. Whether it was any occasion, Easter, Family picnic, Christmas etc. you were always the first to greet everyone and welcome the family. It was to the point where I looked forward to pulling up Easter morning to see you sitting out front every year. It was special because YOU were special, there was just something about you Uncle Tom, you were the definition of a family man. I appreciate being a McDowell so much just because you made our family name special and mean something.. I love being a McDowell because it means being part of a amazing family.. You, Aunt Mary & my Poppy (Joe) are all such amazing people and people who I have looked up to my entire life. Love you so much Aunt Grace & I'm always thinking about you. Never a boring story, never a joke that wasn't funny, you were a man that could make you feel at ease and treat you like family in 15 secs of talking to you. Never easy saying goodbye but at least I have so many memories to hold with me for my life and stories I can tell that Uncle Tom told me and make sure this mans legacy lives on. I love you so much Uncle Tom & on Easter morning I'm still gonna be greeted and welcomed by you and I'll still say hey Uncle Tom because I know you'll be there with your family like you always were. Rest in peace.
