VICTOR LANG Obituary

LANG
VICTOR J. JR., aged 78, died August 15, 2014. Mr. Lang was born in Galveston, Texas on June 28, 1936, the son of Katherine Burkett and Victor John Lang, who preceded him in death.
Mr. Lang was well known in cultural, political and business circles in Galveston, Washington, D.C., and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where he resided for 25 years before returning to Galveston for the remainder of his life.
After a lengthy career as a congressional staffer and lobbyist in the private sector, Mr. Lang returned to his real love, performing. He was a public speaking instructor at Texas A&M University on Pelican Island, as well as an actor, author and columnist. He particularly enjoyed hearing people laugh as he told his raucous stories about Galveston in its "Sin City" days as well as his Washington political stories. Mr. Lang was honored by an onstage gathering at The Grand 1894 Opera House, where the lights were dimmed in his memory.
Memorial donations may be made to The Grand 1894 Opera House, 2020 Post Office St., Galveston, Texas 77550; the AIDS Coalition of Coastal Texas, Inc., 707 23rd Street, Galveston, Texas 77550; or the Galveston Island Humane Society, 6814 Broadway, Galveston, Texas 77554.

I was a bit too young for Victor to really care about me during his big years with IU International but he did. He always treated me with dignity. I wish we had spoken some over the last few years. His passing really leaves me thinking about what I should have said to him. He was a great man!
