Vincent Ciacci Obituary

CIACCI, M.D.
DR. VINCENT W. CIACCI, 91. Retired Physician and former active citizen of the Phoenixville, PA community. Beloved husband of Elizabeth A. Ciacci, of Freedom Village, West Brandywine PA and formerly of Phoenixville, PA, died peacefully at home Friday. Born in Philadelphia PA, to Umberto Victor Ciacci and Concetta Avallone Ciacci, he graduated from Olney High School in 1934, and from Villanova University in 1938. He received his medical degree at Jefferson University in 1942. Entering the military service in 1943, he faithfully served as Division Artillery Surgeon with the 13th and with the 82nd Airborne Divisions, serving in France and Germany from 1943 to 1946. He was discharged from the service as a Major.
A dedicated physician, Dr. Ciacci compassionately cared for patients through his medical practice in Phoenixville from 1949 to 1981, as well as serving as the Phoenixville school and sports team doctor. A proud member of the Phoenixville Hospital, he served as Staff President on two different terms, and organized the first emergency room and coronary care unit at the hospital. He also served as an ambassador to the community for the hospital, garnering funding support to new buildings in 1965 and 1980-1981.
Upon retirement in 1981, he was instrumental in building the Phoenixville Nursing Manor, where he served as Medical Director from 1981 – 1991. He also continued his long association with the Phoenixville Area schools by serving as the school doctor and team physician until 1988.
Dr. Ciacci also was an active member of the Phoenixville community. He was a continuous member of the Rotary Club from 1951 to 2004 and was the first member to serve twice as president. He was a significant patron and sponsor for the Phoenixville schools, their students and faculty. An active fund-raiser, he served on numerous boards, and was honored with many awards over the years, including the B'nai B'rith Annual Citizen ship Award in 1982, the Phoenixville Area Chamber of Commerce Citizen of the Year Award in 1989, and the Rotary District 7450 Vocational Service Award in 1994.
Dr. Ciacci was an avid fisherman and golfer. In retirement, he pursued his creative passions for painting, photography and writing. He also enjoyed playing bridge, one of his favorite pastimes, with friends at Freedom Village.
In addition to his wife Dr. Ciacci is survived by three daughters, Andrea Freeman of Valley Forge, PA; Ellen Ash of Shorewood, WI; Deborah Rhoades of Lebanon, NJ; one son, Vincent W. Ciacci, Jr. of Pottstown; seven grand-children and three great-grand-children. He will be deeply missed by family, friends and all those whose lives he touched over the years.
There will be a Funeral Mass celebrated on Tuesday, February 19th at 11:30 am at Our Lady Of The Rosary Catholic Church, 80 S. 17th Ave., Coatesville, PA. Mass will be followed by a private family burial. A Memorial Service to celebrate his life will be held at a date to be announced.

My sincere sympathies to the family. I remember Dr. Ciacci fondly and can see him in my mind pacing the sidelines at our HS football games with his transistor radio listening to the Phillies or some other game.
