Carolyn Kovacs Obituary
Carolyn Mae Slater Kovacs died peacefully in her sleep on May 7, 2017 at the age of 81. She was born in Dearborn and passed away at her current residence in Tawas Village, East Tawas.
Carolyn attended both a Catholic elementary school and high school. She attended Marygrove College where she received degrees in both music education and English. She shared her love of music with everyone around her by playing piano and singing. While she only lived at Tawas Village a few short months, she quickly became known as the "resident pianist." She played the piano for the last time on the very night she passed away.
Carolyn was an enthusiastic and passionate gardener and could always be found pulling weeds and encouraging flowers in her gorgeous garden. Garden enthusiasts from up and down the Lake Huron shoreline often came to view her garden and chat with her. She loved to delight others with beautiful fresh floral arrangements, often including roses, which were her favorite flower. Carolyn's other hobbies included volunteering weekly at the local food bank, water color painting, cooking, shopping, Beach Belles and water aerobics.
Carolyn was affectionately know as "Nanny" by both her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was a caring, considerate, and thoughtful grandma and mother who went above and beyond for birthdays, holidays and family get-togethers. "Nanny day," as it was affectionately known, was her grandchildren's favorite day of the week. After her grandchildren were grown, she adopted her cat, Lovee, who provided her with constant love and companionship.
Carolyn was preceded in death by her husband ("Poppa"), Donald Joseph Kovacs; and her parents. She is survived by her sister, Janet (Stan) Gebben of Holland; her daughter, Kathleen (Jim) Besson of Charlotte, N.C. and their children, Andrea and Jenna Besson; her son, Phillip (Mary) Kovacs of Twining and their children, Kyle and Kevin Kovacs; her daughter, Linda (Pat) Deyarmond of East Tawas and their children, Katie (Scott) Gorbold and their son, Winter; and Mallory (Zach) Troyer and their daughters, Blythe and Sylvie; and her son Michael (Ann) Kovacs of Turner.
Carolyn's legacy will be celebrated on June 10 at St. Mark's Catholic Church in AuGres. Please contact the church the week prior for the exact time. We miss and love you Mommy, rest peacefully until we meet again.
