Charles W. Goedge, Richard A. Goedge Obituary
Charles "Charlie" William Goedge (2/24/42–5/13/23) and Richard "Dick" Allen Goedge (12/9/46–1/17/23) were born in Oscoda.
The sons of John and Pearl Goedge, both Charlie and Dick were born in a log cabin on the grounds of the resort built by their parents and grandparents – Chippewa Landing Resort. The resort was located on Van Etten Lake, which at the time was a fisherman's paradise.
The brothers relished their hunting and fishing adventures with their dad, as well as the time spent helping their mom at home. They helped with the regular upkeep of the cabins, and when they were older, helped run the camp party store. Charlie and Dick grew up a with a great respect and appreciation for the outdoors, and found peace in the early mornings inside a deer blind or out on a boat.
After Charlie graduated from Oscoda High School, he went to Alpena Community College, but after one semester, determined college wasn't for him and stayed at home to help his parents run the resort. Five years later, Dick graduated from high school and headed to Western Michigan University, where he planned to study art. He ended up switching to elementary education, and taught for over 30 years in Lakeview.
Dick found the love of his life one summer, when she and her family were visiting Oscoda to see her grandparents. He and Linda Fralick were married in 1968, after she had graduated from Wayne State and in between semesters for Dick at WMU. Together, they raised five kids of their own.
Charlie opted for the life of a bachelor and enjoyed the freedom of being able to come and go when he pleased. Just the same, his preference was for the comfort of home, and he continued to help run the resort until both his dad (1970) and mom (1985) passed away. When Charlie sold the resort, he chose to stay in Oscoda, as it was the only city he ever considered home.
Charlie and Dick were preceded in death by their parents, John and Pearl Goedge; as well as their younger cousin, George "Rocky" LeBoube. They are survived by numerous cousins and by Dick's family, including his wife of 53 years, Linda; and his children Eric (Deena) Goedge, Gregory Goedge, Kristen (Christopher) Zirk, Trevor Goedge, and Heidi (Donald) Adamek. Dick had nine grandkids, Faith, Lauren, and Claire Goedge; Gracie Goedge; Ava, Paige, and Micah Zirk; and Jennifer Adamek. He had one great granddaughter, Addy, who was the apple of his eye.
A brief graveside service will be held for those wanting to pay their respects to Charlie and Dick on Wednesday, Aug. 23, at 2 p.m. at Pinecrest Cemetery in Oscoda. Their ashes will be interred at their parents' gravesite.
