Gary Dogonski Obituary

Gary John Dogonski, 71, of National City, passed away quickly and unexpectedly Tuesday, Aug. 19, 2025 at his home.
Gary was born in Detroit to Mary and Walter Dogonski Feb. 9, 1954. He graduated from Henry Ford High School in 1972. Gary worked at General Motors/American Axle in the skilled trades as a welder for 36 years, retiring in 2008 yet maintaining his work friendships during monthly luncheons.
Gary was married to Deborah Dogonski for 38 years. Together they had James, a son. The family lived in Plymouth and then Farmington. After Deborah's death in 2018, Gary moved to the Tawas area.
Gary married Carole Bleau in 2021 and moved to National City on Sand Lake where he enjoyed spending time on the water; jet skiing, pulling people on the tube behind the pontoon boat and nightly sunset cruises. He made it his mission to ensure everyone was having a good time.
Gary had a zest for music and enjoyed being the resident DJ. He loved traveling with Carole in their RV, taking trips out west, out east and south to Pine Island, Fla., where they spent the winter months.
Gary and Carole were working towards their goal of seeing every state in the union.
Gary was a Detroit sports fan and was a season ticket holder for the Red Wings hockey team. He was an avid walker and some said they could set their watch according to the time Gary walked by their place. He was loved by all of the neighborhood dogs, passing out treats for them when he met one.
Gary's best feature was his laugh. He often said, "Ya gotta have fun!," and he did that daily.
Gary was preceded in death by Mary Dogonski, Walter Dogonski, and Deborah Dogonski. Surviving are wife, Carole Bleau; son, James Dogonski (Jennifer); siblings, Joan Wroten, Walter Dogonski, and Thomas Dogonski; grandchildren, Lincoln, Ryleigh and Jakub; and many nephews and nieces.
A cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life for Gary's family and friends will take place on Monday, Sept. 1, at 1 p.m. at the Sand Lake Community Center.
