Nan Buresh Obituary

Nan R. Buresh, age 82, of Oscoda, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 4, 2024, at her home surrounded by family.
Nan was born in Detroit on March 9, 1942. As an only child, she was so proud to be raised by her dear mother, Anna (Shude) McGreevy, and their relationship was truly a special bond. Anna meant the most to Nan, and it is a blessing that the two are sharing life eternally. She spent her younger years growing up in Detroit, and she graduated from Rosary High School.
Nan met and married the love her life and her "middle school sweetheart," Ed Buresh, on June 17, 1959, in Detroit. The two met in the seventh grade, and they have been together ever since. They shared nearly 65 years of marriage and were truly best friends. In the late 1960s when Ed moved the family funeral business to Northern Michigan, they were quick to become active within the community.
In addition to running the household, Nan worked at the funeral home. Later she enjoyed helping manage the Country Closet in Oscoda, and the Lady B in East Tawas. Her amazing sense for fashion was a natural fit for working there.
She was a proud longtime member of the Tawas St. Joseph Hospital board of directors. Nan was a former Miss Iosco Pageant organizer and sponsor, and she and Ed belonged to many dinner clubs over the years.
Some of her favorite hobbies consisted of making beautiful needlepoint canvases, calligraphy, tending to her flower gardens, baking, shopping, boating, being at her home enjoying the beauty of Lake Huron, and most of all spending time with her family. Ed and Nan spent so many wonderful years boating around the Great Lakes on their famous boat, "The Nanny." If the weather was nice, the two of them were gone on the boat somewhere.
They were also members of the Mackinac Island Yacht Club, and enjoyed visiting all the various towns around Michigan and Canada on the boat. Although she loved all animals immensely, Siamese cats and Weimaraner dogs held a special place in her heart. Her favorite music was smooth jazz and she loved attending the jazz festivals on Mackinac Island. Nan was world class at cleaning and there was never anything out of place.
She was a woman of pure class and elegance. She was an incredibly beautiful woman inside and out, and proudly looked like she just stepped out of a magazine at all times because she was a "lady" first and foremost. Even if she was just lounging at home.
She was a loving, caring, gentle, strong, generous, faithful and amazing woman of a quiet but strong Faith. Nan was the best wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, and friend anyone could ever ask for, and she will be missed dearly. She was very proud to be a "boy mom" and cherished that role.
Nan is survived by the love of her life, Edward G. Buresh Jr.; her three sons, Greg (Anna) Buresh, Todd (Shelley) Buresh, and Matthew (Alicia) Buresh; grandchildren, Mason, Madison, Katie, Kyle, Kevin, Jade, Maddi, Taylor, Franklin, and Skye; nephews, John, Jim and Jeff Tryles; cousins, Patrick, Kathleen, and Stephen Shude, Elizabeth Jensen; her dear friend, Millie Lee, whom she absolutely adored and many other special friends.
Visitation for Nan will be held at Buresh Funeral Home in Tawas City, on Friday, June 7, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. with her celebration starting at 1 p.m. Nan will be laid to rest next to her mother, Anna, in Sacred Heart Cemetery in Oscoda.
To honor Nan and her love for animals, please make any memorial contributions out to the Iosco County Human Society. There will be a livestream of the funeral and it will be posted on her obituary page. You may leave an online condolence at www.bureshfuneralhomes.com.
