Eleanore Leavitt Obituary

Eleanore Strohm Leavitt, of Hilton Head Island, died Tuesday, August 14, 2012 at the Seabrook's Fraser Center following a brief illness. She passed away one day after celebrating her 89th birthday. Mrs. Leavitt was born in Brooklyn, New York and grew up in Northern New Jersey. She attended Kimberley Academy in Montclair, New Jersey and graduated from Connecticut College for Women. After graduation she joined IBM as a System Services Representative. It was here that she met her husband of 56 years, William E. Leavitt, who preceded her in death. She was President of the Women's Auxiliary Board of the Episcopal Center for Children in Washington, DC. She also served on the Board of St. Alban's School Women's Guild. Mrs. Leavitt was a member of the Junior League and a charter member of the Sea Pines Country Club where she was very active in golf and tennis. Mrs. Leavitt is survived by three children, Anne Sexton of Bethesda, MD, Eleanore De Sole of Hilton Head, William E. Leavitt Jr. of London and six grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, September 1 at St. Luke's Church. A reception will be held after the service at The Seabrook. Memorial gifts may be sent to The Seabrook Foundation, 300 Woodhaven Drive, Hilton Head Island, SC 29928. The Island Funeral Home and Crematory is in charge of arrangements. We are so saddened to hear of Eleanore's passing. She was always so cheerful and never had a cross word. She will be missed on our trips to see our family in Seabrook.
