Michael DonaldMatteoMichael Donald Matteo, 80, of Lady's Island, S.C., passed away Monday, November 29, 2010 at Beaufort Memorial Hospital. Born in Camden, New Jersey, Michael is the son of the late Frank and Anna DiSalvio Matteo of Marlton, NJ. Michael was a Korean War Veteran serving in the Army's 101st Airborne Division, earning a Bronze Star Medal for his service. As a distinguished attorney in the State of New Jersey for 45 years, his practice emphasized all aspects of public and private sector financing and banking law. He served as counsel to both state and U.S. politicians and was solicitor to many local governments and community organizations. Before retiring to South Carolina, he was a founder and former counsel for the Garden State Community Hospital, now part of the West Jersey Hospital System. A man who always put family first, he is survived by his wife of 53 years, Jeane Matteo of Lady's Island, S.C., five children, Dara McNabb of Shelbyville, TN, Michael Matteo Jr. of Mt. Pleasant, SC, Aimee Finch of Naperville, IL, Leigh Koebert of Haddon Heights, NJ, Sean Matteo of Bluffton, SC, his brother Frank Matteo of Marlton, NJ, 12 grandchildren and two beloved dogs. A memorial service will be held Friday, December 3, 2010 at 11:00 A.M. at St. Peter's Catholic Church. Interment will follow in Beaufort National Cemetery with military honors. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Wounded Warrior Project (woundedwarriorproject.org). Copeland Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.
