Robert Niermeyer Obituary

Robert J. Niermeyer Robert J. Niermeyer, 75, of Long Cove Club died suddenly Friday, August 22, at the Hilton Head Regional Medical Center. He was born on July 26, 1933 in Rochester, NY and was the son of the late Jean Courneen Niermeyer and Lester Niermeyer. He moved to Hilton Head Island from Great Falls, Virginia, where he and his family lived for many years. He graduated from Aquinas High School where he played football and attended Indiana University where he also played football He graduated from the University of Rochester. He was a retired executive with Mobil Oil Corporation. Mr. Niermeyer was a member of Long Cove Club; active with the Boys and Girls Club, Volunteers in Medicine, Long Cove Men's Golf Association, and the Concours d'Elegance. He was an avid golfer who participated in the Long Cove Endowment Golf Classic and volunteered at the VIM golf tournaments. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Patricia Gabel Niermeyer; four daughters and a son-in-law Mary Zeko of Darien, CT, Karen Niermeyer of Austin, TX, Cathy and Ken Kazan of West Hills, CA and Anne Niermeyer of Woodland Hills, CA; seven grandchildren, Robert, Ryan, Michael and William Zeko, Shannon, Lindsay and Courtney Kazan; three brothers and two sisters-in-law Richard and Linda Niermeyer of Houston, TX, David and Florence Niermeyer of Vestal, NY and James Niermeyer of Richmond, VA, and several nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Francis by the Sea Catholic Church. Inurnment will be in the St. Francis Columbarium. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may me made to Long Cove Club Endowment Fund, 44 Long Cove Drive, Hilton Head Island, SC 29928 and Volunteers in Medicine, 15 Northridge Drive, Hilton Head Island, SC 29926. The Island Funeral Home and Crematory is in charge of arrangements.
