William Seiden Obituary

William Edward Seiden
February 8, 1946 - August 22, 2022
Hilton Head Island, South Carolina - The family of William "Bill" Seiden sorrowfully report his passing away on August 22, 2022 on Hilton Head Island, SC due to complications of a kidney transplant. Bill was born February 8, 1946 to Harold and Ruth (Stulman) Seiden in Jersey City, NJ. A date he liked to tell people he shared with his wife, Barbara (Tomassi) Seiden (born in the same hospital, by the same doctor, on the same day, one year apart). They didn't meet until 22 years later. They were married on June 22, 1968 for 54 years.
Bill's life was a full and rich one. He spent his teens in Binghamton, NY, then attended Rutgers University and the University of Connecticut Law School. He was a respected lawyer in the Hartford and Avon, CT area for 47 years. Adversaries became clients and clients became friends. In 1978 he opened his own firm, William E. Seiden, P.C. and retired in 2018 to Hilton Head as one of the few sole practitioners left in the profession.
Dogs, specifically German Shepherds were his joy! His family, a round of golf, a few hands of poker with friends, a good cigar, cars and a fabulous meal made him happiest.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara; children Jenna N. Seiden and Bastiaan den Braber of Culver City, CA, Jessie (Seiden) and Michael Sartor of Hingham, MA and Dr. Daniel and Brooke Seiden of Hilton Head Island, SC; six grandchildren, William, James and Edward (Teddy) Sartor, Stella, Sullivan and Benjamin Seiden and companion Daisy, our beloved German Shepherd.
The family wishes to thank the Kidney Transplant Team of the Mayo Clinic (Jacksonville), Compassus Hospice Care, Broad Creek Care Center, and Dr. M. Novikov for their care and compassion. Please consider honoring Bill by donating and/or adopting at your local animal shelter or rescue.
Interment will be private. A "Celebration of Life" will be held Saturday, September 17, 2022 at Bostwick Pavilion, Moss Creek, Hilton Head Island, SC. Memorial Service from 12 to 1 pm and reception to follow.

Bill was my law professor at Tunxis CC in 1973. He was incisive and thorough and made the subject interesting. The day following the Roe v Wade decision he proclaimed it would be reversed. He was right, 50 years later. My sympathies to his family. He will be remembered.

Bill and I became friends through our dogs: his adopted German Shepherd Daisy, and my adopted Catahoula Leopard Miss Beaucoup. Daisy and Beaucoup played together at the Dog Park.
I met Bill at the Dog Park while I was looking for Beaucoup. There she was with her best buddy Daisy talking with Bill as he sat on a bench reading Beaucoup´s "dog tag".
As we talked Bill and I found we had many things in common: we both lived at Moss Creek just fifty yards apart and across the fairway, we both came here from New Jersey, we both have retired teacher wives, we both have children (he also has grandchildren), we both love our adopted dogs, we both have very similar interests and love to laugh.
When Bill and Barbara needed to go to Jacksonville for several months so he could have a kidney transplant, I asked if Daisy could come over to our house for a sleep-over with Beaucoup for three or four months. We loved having her. She is a sweetheart.
When Bill and Barbara came home after his successful kidney transplantation, Beaucoup and I walked across the fairway to take Daisy home to see her Mom and Dad. When she saw Barbara she ran to jump up and greet her. She was so happy to see Barbara again!
The complications of Bill´s earlier back surgery made his overall recovery very difficult. Barbara was very brave and helped Bill through every phase.
In the end, we all knew it not very likely that Bill would recover. Daisy seemed to sense this too. Still she comforted Barbara as if to say "I know you´re hurting. I love you."
Bill´s was. Life well lived.
His family is a living testament to his generous and loving spirit.
His love for and adoption of Daisy is further witness to Bill´s caring heart.
We all miss Bill so very much.
Our hearts and minds are filled with your loving spirit.
Always.
Tim, Susan and Miss Beaucoup

I had the pleasure of dealing with Bill for many years on behalf of mutual clients that he and my boss had together. He was a gentleman and a very brilliant man. We had many conversations about our beloved dogs, especially when I had a Belgian Shepherd. Even when Wil moved to the Carolinas, he always called periodically to check in on us and update us on his retirement and status. My sincere condolences to Bill`s family. You must have so many beautiful memories to comfort you
