Donald Shapiro Obituary

Donald E. Shapiro, 76
1948 - 2024
Lynn, MA - It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our cherished husband, brother, uncle and friend, Donald Edward Shapiro, who left us peacefully surrounded by his family on September 24, 2024. Donald lost his battle with cancer at the age of 76. Donald spent his formative years in Attleboro, Massachusetts with his parents, Dorothy and Samuel Shapiro together with his sister, Judy, and brother, Bob.
Donald was an avid outdoor person who loved gardening and animals since a young age. He was always known for having a green-thumb and could grow anything he set his mind too. He began his love of animals by starting his aquarium business in Attleboro, MA with a small room in his father's store - it was called Don's Aquarium. He took this love of fish and small animals into his own home and built magnificent tropical fish tanks and a beautiful Koi pond in his backyard. His garden was always blossoming with his award winning Dalias as well. He loved entering the flowers into competitions and won many awards.
Donald is survived by his wife of 18 years, Gail Wallis Shapiro, of Lynn, MA as well as his siblings Judy & Harold Kramer of Marblehead, MA, Bob & Pat Shapiro of Bloomfield, CT, Carol & Keith Wallis of Peabody, MA, Barbie Wallis of Lynn, MA and many nieces and nephews.
Service Information: Funeral services will be held at Congregation Shirat Hayam 55 Atlantic Avenue, Swampscott on Friday, September 27, 2024, followed by interment at Pine Grove Cemetery in Lynn, MA. Shiva will be observed privately. In lieu of flowers, donations to the charity of your choice may be made in Donald's memory. For directions or online condolences go to: www.goldmanfc.com. Judy,Harold, and family, please accept my deepest condolences and sympathy. Don and I worked together during one of my summer breaks from school and I enjoyed his sense of humor and learned a lot about our mutual trade. He was one of the many that laid the foundation for my life´s work. You all are in my thoughts during this difficult time.
