M. Ajootian Obituary

Former Marshalls employeeVerta was born in Metegan, Nova Scotia Oct. 5, 1935, the daughter of the late Eva Saulnier and Joseph H. Comeau. She was close to her late step father Louis D'Entremont of Long Island, N.Y. She came to Massachusetts in 1950 with her family and attended Saint Jean's Baptist High School, graduating in 1954.She worked as a key punch operator in Salem and worked at Marshalls Department store as an office worker in Swampscott.She married her husband Kenneth Ajootian Aug. 2, 1969. They had many happy years together until he passed away in 1987. They did not have children, however, her cat Minuet was her special baby. She was an accomplished pianist. Her favorite composers were George Gershwin and Irving Berlin. She loved going to Bingo until she became disabled in 1995. She was a resident of Hammersmith House, Saugus for many years, where she received excellent care.She leaves a nephew and niece in Metegan, Nova Scotia and several cousins. She also leaves her very dear friends Gloria and Tom Collins of Lynn, who adopted Verta into their family and helped take care of her for 16 years. She was affectionately called Aunty Verta by their children, Donna Spencer Collins of Lynn, Denise Ramsdell of Nashua, N.H. Karen Kiersey of Laconia, N.H., Janice Noonan of Mantica, Calif., Kathie Collins of Revere and Tom Collins Jr. of Lynn.Service information: Visitation will be Thursday evening in the GOODRICH Funeral Home, 128 Washington St., Lynn, 6-9 p.m. There will be a service of remembrance during this time. A private burial service will take place at St.Jeans Cemetery on Friday morning.
