George Oldridge

POMONA - George"Barney" Oldridge, 78, of Pomona died June 13, 2003, at the Jerry L. Pettis V. A. Hospital in Loma Linda. Mr. Oldridge was born March 18, 1925, in Pomona. He had attended Pomona grade schools and then graduated from Bonita High School in La Verne in 1942. After graduation he entered the U.S. Navy, retiring as a Chief Petty Officer in 1968 and having served in World War II, Korea and Vietnam. Mr. Oldridge was a life member, past commander, finance officer and bar manager for the Charles P. Rowe American Legion Post #30 in Pomona. He had also belonged to the Al Malaikahan Shrine, the Los Angeles Old Baldy Shrine Club, the Pomona Elks Lodge, the San Bernardino Scottish Rite and the Pomona V.F.W. He is survived by his wife, Beverly; daughters, Terri Bartholomew (Tom) of Homeland and Toni Petersen of Hemet; sons, Jared Rainey (Shannon) of Chino Hills and Doug Oldridge of La Verne; his sister, Diana Freiwald of Garden Grove; granddaughter, Lawana Gomez; grandsons, Rick Bartholomew, Andrew, Nicholas and Nathaniel Rainey; and five great-grandchildren. Services with military honors wi ll be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 18 at Riverside National Cemetery, staging area #5. Todd Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
