ESPINOZA

Andrea Espinoza, 90 from Calexico passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by family.
She graduated from Universidad Autonoma De Baja California as a registered nurse where she also learned English. Andrea worked for the Red Cross in Mexicali were later was promoted to Head of Medical Staff. In 1957 she was recruited to work the night shift at the Calexico Hospital which she did for 11 years. Andrea also attended San Luis Obispo College where she received her florist certification and soon after opened her own flower shop in Calexico. She was an active member of the Calexico Lions Club, the Calexico Neighborhood House, De Colores and the Calexico Methodist Church. Andrea received numerous commendations from the City of Calexico, California State Assembly, United Way and Woman Haven for her outstanding contributions to the community. She retired her volunteer services and spent her time at home singing, playing guitar, writing poetry, among other things. She was always there for anybody that would seek her comfort and knowledge.
Survivors include her children: Maria Luisa Espinoza Luna (Francisco Luna) Calexico, Francisco Espinoza (Rosa Isela Ayon), Calexico; grandkids and great- grandkids, Carlos Francisco and Justina Espinoza, San Diego, Francisco, Christina and little Adriel Espinoza , El Centro, Daniel Espinoza, San Diego, Angela and Gilbert Moreno, Calexico, Melissa C. Moreno, San Diego, Daniel Moreno, Calexico, Luis Luna, Los Angeles, Frank, Linda and Nicole Luna, San Diego, Alberto and Claudia Espinoza-Cor- dova, San Antonio BC, Alberto Jr. Cordova, San Antonio BC, Kenia and David Swanson, Texas, Jorge Espinoza, San Diego, Marissa Espinoza, San Felipe.
A memorial service for Andrea will be on Wednesday, December 16, 2009 at Hems Mortuary in Calexico. Visitation will be at 10 a.m. followed by a prayer service at 11 a.m.
