GLENDA FAY MARTIN

1926 - 2019

Glenda Martin, 93, of Imperial passed away on Friday, July 19, 2019 of natural causes at El Centro Regional Hospital. Glenda was one of nine children born to Thelma and Eber Rutledge in Benjamin, Texas. During her senior year of high school, Glenda met and married Rex Martin in Rule, Texas. They were married for 63 years. They lived on his parents' farm until they relocated to the Imperial Valley. Rex and Glenda co-owned McCarty and Martin's Grocery, assuming ownership following the passing of Mac McCarty. The store was closed in 1979 and Glenda returned to the IID, where she worked for a total of 20 years. Her last position was in General Accounting. Glenda's strong love for Jesus was evident to all who knew her. She was a faithful member of the First Southern Baptist Church in Imperial for most of her life. A nurturing mother and grandmother, Glenda made her home the hub of family gatherings over the years. Her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were blessed to have grown up surrounded by her love. Glenda was proceeded in death by her parents, Eber and Thelma Rutledge; brothers, Pete, Bob and Buzz; sisters, Latriece, Jane and Bettye; in-laws, Arthur and Annie Martin, Reecie and Ross Williams and her beloved husband, Rex. She is survived by her children, Jim (Rosalie) Martin, Mike (Robin) Martin, Pat (Bob) Cooke and Pam (Steve) Bonillas; her grandchildren, Scott (Kerri) Martin, Todd (Jenny) Martin, Stephanie (Anthony) Porvaznik, Lesley Green, Cheryl (Vic) Pitones, Jeff (Julissa) Martin, Taryn (Jason) Johnson, Marilyn Martin, Taylor Martin, Sarah Cooke, Rob (Isbel) Cooke, Steve (Jenny) Bonillas, Kyle (Dallas) Bonillas and Colbi Bonillas; 17 great-grandchildren, one great-great granddaughter; and her sisters, Sally McCarty and Nancy Smith. Memorial service will be held Friday, August 2, 2019 at Imperial First Southern Baptist Church and will be officiated by Matthew Mincher. Burial will be private.
